Last Fall 2006, I got an absolutely NIB unfired RIA M60. I just got two E4 kits from US Ordnance (one for me, one for my buddy), and my M60E4 is now a reliable, fun, ammo eating, belt-fed machine gun!

There are various linkers for the M13 open links, but it is just as easy to simply load them by hand.

Was doing a bit of research and found this old thread.

Can someone tell me if the RIA serial numbers are on the trunions or on the rails? Is the maremount serial numbers on the trunion or on the rails?

I have been debating a M60 versus an HK21 host for a sear. I understand both to have their specific issues, but my thought is that the M60 will likely have better parts availablity in the future and was designed to run .308 belts. Where the 21, although being modified to handle .308, is a beefed up G3. The other thing about a 21 is there are ways to run 223 in it versus 308, which is a real benefit in my opinion.

Any guidance would be appreciated. Anyone know of any deals on a M60, please let me know. I have been looking over Subguns and Sturm, if you see anything else I would be interested.

Face it! Any belt fed is gonna take a bit more maintenance and repair if you shoot it a lot. Shotguns and bolt action deer rifles are like sedans and pickup trucks-unless you do something really stupid they'll keep on working with a minimum of hassel. A machine gun is more like a race car if yer gonna use it and abuse it, you gotta work on it. Might as well have the one that spins YOUR crank and learn to take care of it.

All I have to say is Pete doesn't know everything. If it was designed that poorly it would never have evolved into what you have today. Of all the belt feds out there if I was going to buy one that would be my pick. Buy it cause you know it's the right thing to do.

A couple years ago SAR did a 3-4 month series on the 60. It had lots of info on the care and maintenance of the 60. I found for most purposes it was better than the Tech manuals i downloaded.

I've got a RIA M60 and I've never ever had a problem. If you get a newer E4 barrel, and top cover you are making a light years improvement in the gun.

Really, truly, IF YOU ARE BUYING an M60 get the SAR writeup. It discusses the history, but mostly gives you lots of points for owning and running a M60 as a rec shooter. I used a 60 in the Army and my experience wasn't the best. It was the original version. Buy your 60 and upgrade 3-4 parts from US Ordnance and you'll have a smoking reliable MG.

I'm starting to think about getting an M60. I have some reservations considering how badly Peter Kokalis trashes the design.

Opinions?

honestly, F**K what that kook Kokalis says, he thrashes EVERYTHING, even UZIs.. i dont even read his writings anymore, he just pisses me off, NOTHING is good enough for him, though he claims to own several of everything...prick.. hes just got some kind of self-defeating personality disorder

moral: if you want to buy an M60, GO FOR IT!!! just let me rip off a good FA burst:D !!
