Is there a known problem with some M11/9's having a tight fit with Z-Mags? In my case, the fit is VERY tight. Before I got the gun, I had it sent off to Sam at Practical Solutions. I think Sam said the included mag is a PAM mag. I had them do some minor repairs and re-park the finish. I didn't even try the PAM mag yet, but I had all sorts of FTE issues with the Z-Mags. I have done nothing yet to correct the fit.

I also have a dedicated M11/22 upper with the appropriate mags. With that upper, the mag catch seems to be not effective, but the mags fit a little better. I don't think they quite drop free. This upper works surprisingly well.

I'm just looking to know what others have done to address such fitting issues. Mine is a 1984 M11/9, if that offers any clues.

Yea, its a know issue. I started a similar thread back in November. My M11/Nine will run fine on ZMags, but you have to force them in and the mag well is rubbing the finish off. I have a second M11/Nine in NFA jail. As soon as I learned of the issue I ran down to my dealer and tested it for ZMags. I was going to send it off to Sam at Practical Solutions while I was waiting on the transfer to be approved, but mags drop free from that gun. Once it gets out of Jail, I'll have to decide if I want to send off my old one or just relegate it to use with the Max11/15. It would be nice if there was a list of known issues to check for when purchasing a Mac. The good thing is everything is fixable.

Welds
Retaining pin hole egging
Mag fitment
Lower geometry (test a modern upper for function)

Just hit the front of the mag with a hammer. Works for a while. When it fucks up again, get the hammer back out. If the bolt catches on it, file the feed lips down.

For a lot of folks out there, Zmags aren't the bees knees they're made out to be. They work... usually.

Mines a 84 also... Even zytels are very tight. Z mags don't even go in half way

Hello, I too have a 1984 swd m11 and have the exact same problem brother!whats up with this? I can tell you that ftf industries mags fit perfect but was very disappointed with shockwave mags fit. I just recently got mine and into the nfa game.there is a lot to learn.did you try sanding or light grinding the mags?i would much rather a mess with the mags than my receiver! A mag is still less then a hundred bucks . I am going to measure my original mag which fits and runs perfectly versus the shockwave.what did you find out?Kenny

Don't sand anything. Bring the grip into specs. Sam at Practical Solutions or any good gunsmith can stretch your grip so every mag will fit.

I could not agree more. Messing with the magazines is just "kicking the can down the road". You have a problem, the magwell. So fix it and be done with it. YMMV.

Just stretch the mag well. It's the only good solution. Apparently 84 guns suck. Mine was same way

I sent my gun to Sam to stretch the magwell and my zmags still fit tight. I’m very disappointed with zmags to say the least. When my gun gets out of jail I’ll deal with it more. X2 on zmags not being the bees knees.

Try to figure out *why* or *where* it is tight and rubbing. It'll likely be obvious when you look at the ZMag. One of my M11/9 guns had a problem with fit of Z-Mags, and the other didn't. It wasn't that the magwell was too tight overall... it was that there was a bit of weld metal at the top of the magwell that was hitting the magazines. A couple of minutes with a Dremel tool and it was fixed.

Would not advise. The welds on the back of my mag well on my 84 gun are microscopic tack welds. Would be very afraid to snap them

The MAG. The cheap piece of metal thingy with springy thing inside that you load bullety things into? That you stick up into the gun? Hit it with a hammer. Then it fits.

Take the mag. Lay it on a table. Hit it with a hammer. Try putting it in. It fits. If it doesn't, lay it back down and hit it with a hammer more.

After reading this, I checked my nib m11/9. The mag wouldn’t go in. It was hitting the stock rails. Extended stock and mag worked. Also, stock would close with mag in. Sounds dumb to think it might be that but mentioning it just in case.

When that’s the case, you can usually bend the stock’s rails outwards just slightly and it will then clear in both positions.

Yes, just mentioned it in case a simple fix was being overlooked. I was taken back at first because no drag but stopped like it hit a brick wall. Hammer would of been a disaster.
