I've been having occasional stovepipes. I have replaced the extractor and installed a new recoil spring. Today I noticed that there is play in the ejector. It moves slightly forward and backward. I will order a new extractor and brad. My gun-smithing skills are just beginning. Should I attempt to replace the extractor myself? Can anyone recommend a trusted Uzi gunsmith in the Houston area? Thanks.

Thank you for both replies. I will peen the rivet this weekend. I would still like to find a Houston area Uzi gunsmith just in case the stovepipes continue. I want the weapon to function flawlessly.

Hi,

F/A gun new to you? Just asking. Check for the letter "G" on the left hand side of the bolt near the rear. Other thoughts, ammo?

Enjoy,

Is your gun a registered receiver FA or is it a conversion via a registered bolt?
Do you own a Vector or an IMI conversion?

The gun is an IMI Model A and was converted by Frankford Arsenal. The blocking bar was not removed and the bolt is slotted. So I assume it is a registered bolt even though the Form 4 states "machine gun". This is my 2nd F/A. The first, an unfired Mac 10/45 in the original box, works perfectly. Having heard about the reliability of Uzi's for years, I have been surprised by the various maintenance requirements. With input from Uzitalk members, I think the kinks will be worked out. Thank you all again.

OK. I peened the ejector rivet. I had to use a hand held sledge hammer for the peening to be effective. I went to the range this am and the Uzi was perfect: no stovepipes, no failures to fire, just perfection. I attribute the success to five actions: new recoil spring, new extractor, peen the ejector rivet, new unused 32 round magazine, and purchase of NATO ammunition. I am now a totally satisfied Uzi enthusiast.
