the real problem.....as it has been said....is that nobody had any faith in AA, which proved out to be true. people wanted the upper, but avoided them when they came out specifically due to lack of historical product support from the maker and all those proprietary parts. big/bulky was a third problem way down the list as well as drilling a hole. now of course, AA is gone and the SABRE is an upper that can quickly turn into a large paperweight for you.

It didn't bother me so much that the Sabre was being produced by a startup...my personal reasons for not buying a Sabre, (but definitely buying a MAX-11/15) are below in no particular order. If I have some details wrong about the Sabre...please correct me.

1. Bulky and heavy...contrast that with how streamlined the MAX-11/15 is
2. Lots of proprietary parts...contrast that with the MAX-11/15
3. The whole upper had to come apart to clean...a lengthy and involved process. You can't just pull the bolt carrier assembly out from the rear to clean is my understanding. Correct? My understanding of the MAX-11/15 in contrast is the bolt carrier assembly comes out the rear for ease of routine cleaning.
4. The barrel shroud is integral to the upper which presents a more complicated process to replace the barrel and zero hand guard choice. In contrast, it appears the MAX-11/15 utilizes a standard barrel nut so there will be interchangeability of hand guards and barrel swaps should be more straightforward. Possibility the MAX-11/15 will accept one of the several quick change barrel setups on the market.
5. Proprietary, single choice, gas (piston) system...requires the upper to come apart to service? MAX-11/15 comes with the standard AR15/M16 gas system which is simpler and saves weight. MAX-11/15 will have the ability to change front ends and utilize some of the retrofit gas piston systems on the market?

Drilling the hole in the back of the receiver is a non-issue for me. Pretty much all the aftermarket stocks will cover the hole when the AR15 stock assembly is absent -and- the bolt assembly of all other calibers comes with its own integrated back plate...so in a very practical sense, the hole will not be seen or affect function in any way.

Clarifications:

3. Yes, the bolt assembly just slides out the rear of the upper.
4. The MAX-11/15 front are is identical to a flat top AR upper.
5. We are making sure the MAX-11/15 is compatible with the Adams Arms Piston conversion kits.

The hole is only 5/16" (.312") diameter. It is in the same location as the SABRE hole and 1/8" higher than a TASK drilled lower receiver.

Sounds great! Any ballpark price yet?

Same location as Sabre hole makes me happy!

It looks like the M11/9 is the only full auto I will ever own at least in the next 5 years if I win the lottery. The other options for a rifle calibre full auto MG are even far more expansive as it the DIAS options. For the money, the M11/9 is the most versatile platform to get into and next to the AR platform has the largest availability of aftermarket parts. I picked into a great deal when I bought mine and the gentleman who sold it to me was very honest and great to deal with.

I am so looking forward to the M11/15 upper for my Mac as I already had the TASK slow fire conversion on mine so the hole is already there. I have enjoyed sharing the FA experience with people who may not otherwise have the opportunity to shoot it and nothing will make you feel better than the smile you put on faces that will likely be there a while.

I hope the 1st production run is 500 units so I will not have to wait another year. 😶

It is my understanding that the TASK hole is low for the S.A.B.R.E./Max11/15. So you'll end up with an oval hole. Maybe you are just wishing for 500 units, but production is supposed to be 20 units the first month and 50 each month there after.
