Woooooo Hoooo! That was a very fun event and the best I have ever shot overall (no dnf...). Even with those results I have no plans to walk 4 miles with everything before shooting ever again!!!! Richard, thank you again for letting me borrow the lucky bolt handle!

Nice job to everybody.

We are not done with Subgun matches. There will be more subgun competitions moving forward. We will keep you posted.

Thanks,
Paul Winters

WAAAAAHOOOOOOO!

Also, what is SMG.X and Garret how'd you run your MAX-31 in closed bolt?

I’ll let Richard give details for his new prototype when he’s ready. But it’s pretty cool.

On the MAX-31 Closed Bolt, it’s been out there for a while. I think Richard made a handful several years ago, and others have made them as well. The MAX-31 receiver is long enough, you can fit a “slide hammer” block behind the bolt. The bolt has a floating firing pin, like on a semi-auto. I bought a used one a while ago, and had to work to get it mostly reliable.

It works fairly well, but takes some tinkering. Much better than the slow-fire closed bolt Uzi I tried running at the Creek a few years ago.

Outside of the Creek, I prefer the open bolt setup though. ROF is a bit too high on the CB setup. And drums are almost impossible to load on a closed bolt. It’s necessary to hold the bolt back with one hand, insert drum, then drop the bolt. With no bolt-hold-open, it’s a bit awkward.

TODD! Did you go?

Who posted video of Richard's run? :)

I tried. Ended up staying back to fix a leaky roof :(

I don’t know if Richard’s runs are posted anywhere as I’ve not seen them. And no. I know nothing about the SMG.X. I think.

The electromagnetic recoil mitigation system disrupted all digital video in the immediate area of the SMG.X during shooting...

We did manage to save and digitize a small segment of film from a backup 8mm camera...

I'm going to pull my 16mm out of the closet and head over to AZ.
