Does anyone know where to find the instructions for trimming Grease Gun mags for use in an original M10? They used to be on the Practical Solutions page, but the link I have is dead, and I'm struggling to find them through search.

Also, I'm aware of the mag catch options, so no need to tell me about those. Just trying to figure out how much is supposed to be trimmed off the spine and side stops.

It’s pretty simple. You just need to take an 1/8” off the lower back edge and the top of each mag stop on the sides. No more than that or else the mag will insert too high in the gun and interfere with the bolt.

Thanks, for some reason I thought the measurements for the spine and side stops was different.

I thought no mods to the grease gun mags were necessary. Did MAC trim all the slide stops? The pics don't look like they moded the mags.

My understanding is they made these minimal changes to milspec mags so that unmodified mags wouldn’t work, with the hopes that more people would buy from them.

I cut 1/8" off the sides. Then remove only enough, at a bit of an angle, from the back to allow the catch to lock. I think this can vary slightly from mag to mag.
This is a closeup of the modifications of an original PS mag.

All over the place!
I have two mags, a 10 and a 40 that have a notch that appears to have been done when they were manufactured. The notch looks to be closer to 1/32. There are no markings on them. The stops look the same size as the surplus mags I have.

Here’s some pictures of a MAC Powder Springs factory converted USGI grease gun mag.

Read through several posts from back in the early 2000's on this forum.

1/32 ...to 1/16 seemed to be the common answer along with buy the dual catch.

You can also buy a dozen or so old surplus GG mags and just try them as is.
I've always found a few out of every batch that locked up and fed with no mods.
Then I just resell the ones that don't fit.
Also switched to the KS mags when they came out and almost never use the surplus mags anymore.

I allways thought it was like 1/32" trimmed off the spine.

Paging @MitchWerbellsGhost87 for the backstory on this dealiO
1/16th of an inch off the bottom of the rear plate and the top of the mag stops on the sides. At least that’s the number I’ve always had in my head for whatever reason. 1/16 works. Easiest solution is to install a dual mag catch that will allow the use of both M10 modified GG mags and normal unmodified surplus GG mags. The only reason the original MAC company modified the mags was so that customers were required to purchase magazines from MAC, versus simply using left over GG mags. The US military armorers were not about to sit there filing the side stops on all the GG mags…. Much easier to just order the correct magazine for the gun.

IMHO there is no reason to modify mags with the availability of the dual mag catch.

I installed one in my M10 and just shove whatever mag I want in there, milsurp, Mac, Mac home modified, etc.
Yep, and the key issue is, if you mod the mag, it's for use in the M10 only.

I don't think many M10 owners have a M3 GG to share mags with so not really a big deal.

I don't see the mag mod as an issue with GG mags availability. There are always a few dozen at every gun show I go to. Convince is the key.
