It was kinda hard for me to judge accuracy too much since I was basically just shooting into the side of a hill. They all pretty much stayed close together. I was using some zytels. One thing I did notice about them is after I took a shot and the bolt locked back. I'd look in and the bullet that was next in line had already been moved up about 1/4 to 1/3 of the way in the mag. I guess the recoil was jarring them forward a little. I had a couple of hundred rounds with me and decided I'd hold off until tomorrow or this weekend to shoot it more. I want to actually set some things up and see how good I can do with it. Shooting dirt really isn't the best way to test them.

Had 2 mags start to fall out and jammed the gun, it might have been the way I was holding it. I grabbed the strap with my left hand and wrapped my thumb around my other hand.

That and it stove piped once, don't know why.

I'd look in and the bullet that was next in line had already been moved up about 1/4 to 1/3 of the way in the mag. I guess the recoil was jarring them forward a little.

In my experience the mag release button is easy to push if your grip on the gun is too low. I had the same problem with mags wanting to drop out while shooting when I first got my M11/9. Make sure when you grip it that the heel of your hand is nowhere near the mag release. If you use a paddle mag release or a Lage thumb release grip you will not have this problem.

Stove pipes happen sometimes even when everything is perfect. However,......PLEASE tell me you replaced that 20 year old buffer before you even pulled the trigger the first time!!!!!!!! If you didn't don't shoot it again until you have a new buffer or at least a suitable substitute (I've used a piece of my mouse pad before in a pinch!). That bullet movement/excessive recoil could be due to the bolt hitting the frame too hard.

Good call Jason. I thought about it and did not get any ordered in time. I pulled it apart to oil and clean it before I shot it. The buffer actually looked new and was not hard or dry rotted. I counted the rounds and I think I put 70 through it. Pulled it apart earlier to clean it and the buffer had split at the recoil spring location. Wheres the best place to get some or at least what can I get to make some?

Don't feel too bad...I'm on day 37 since my check was cashed. The front side Form 4 (from owner to my dealer) took 21 days mailbox-to-mailbox. Of course, this all beats the old days when transfers were measured in months.

It was cashed the April 3rd, pending from the April 10th to the 3rd of March, or until I called. Approved on the 4th. I'd call them and ask them how it's progressing, they are actually fairly friendly and easy to get along with. I looked mine over agian and didn't see any splits, cracks or bends to the back plate. Does it normally show wear from a bad buffer or will it come in a few more mags if it got damaged? Last time he shot it was 10 years ago, and I put 70 through it today. The buffer actually looked good until I was done. Still isn't thrashed, but it definately needs a new one. So probably no more than 300 rounds have been through it with most of that being 10-20 years ago when the buffer was in better shape.

Buffer

I doubt you did any damage from WWB with that rotted buffer in only 70 rounds. If you just want a quick fix you can actually use a couple of layers of your mouse pad cut to fit. This will last around 200-300 rounds. Richard Lage sells buffers and his customer service is fast. You could cut your own from sheet rubber and neoprene (think rubber car mats). Otherwise, there are several other places you can get good buffers.......just don't know how long they take to ship. Good Luck!!!!!!

How hard is too hard for a buffer. Since this is the first mac I've ever delt with, I don't want to make one too hard or soft. I looked at my mouse pads and they were a good bit softer. I've got a old truck bed mat that has some kind of fiber reinforcements in it. It's flexible, but seems fairly hard. I would like to run a few mags through it this weekend, but I'd rather not screw it up.

You just want something that will have a little give to it. The mouse pads are very soft, that is why they will only last 200-300 rounds before they disintegrate. Your truck mat is probably about right as far as give goes. How thick is it? If it is less than say 1/4 inch thick, I would double it up. It really does not need to be springy, as just about any type of ruberized material is much softer than the back plate of your receiver. Just make sure you get a real buffer ordered or made before you start putting a lot of rounds down range.

Sounds good, While I was out I picked up some 1/8 rubber sheets plumbers pack from lowes. Hell it was $1.38 and looked and felt almost identical to the original. May go ahead and make a couple from that. I'll go ahead and double that up and see how it does. I figured it was basically to keep the metal on metal contact down, but sure as shit, it would break if I didn't ask.

Buffers

I haven't tried Richard Lage's buffers (yet), but I really like the MPA buffers he included with his Max-11. I got extra MPA buffers from the folks below:

RPB LINK

My dealings with them have been good. You can also get any additional parts you might need from them, too.
