Homebrew STEN Mk. II stock and red dot adapter

Over the last few weeks I've cobbled together a red dot, pistol grip, and picatinny stock solution for my STEN Mk. II.

At the front I took a couple of 1.5" shaft collars from Amazon and machined a slot to accept a steel picatinny rail section at the bottom for a VFG, and a pocket for a modified RMR mount at the top. It clamps on both the shroud and the front of the receiver.

At the rear I've taken a stock plate from stenparts.com, recessed the top to fit my receiver, and made an aluminum AR stock + picatinny adapter to bolt to it. This was by far the most tedious part but I'm happy with how it turned out. The ergonomics are almost good!

Do you find the barrel nut loosening with that forward grip? I have a repro Mark V wooden grip and I found that the barrel nut latch ('ratchet') doesn't have enough bite to resist my side force. I have a sharp tooth pawl but it doesn't seem to be enough. The grip gives me a lot of leverage to turn the barrel nut. It doesn't happen a lot but I have to stay conscious of it or I find the grip moving sideways.

I agree that ergonomics on the STEN are poor and I would say that it's by far the weakest point about the gun. Great fun to shoot though.

With my setup, that front ring clamps on the barrel nut and the rear ring clamps on the receiver -- and then the rings are joined to each other with the red dot plate on top and the picatinny rail at the bottom. So with that, the barrel nut is fixed to the receiver and (hopefully) doesn't rotate.

I don't have a lot of rounds through it in this configuration, but it's worked well so far. It's definitely a fun one to shoot.
