Just found your forum a couple of weeks ago and wanted to thank all you guys for the very interesting posts on various topics that I wanted to know about before finally plunking down some big bucks :( to order my Vector Mini. I had debated buying one for a couple of years now, waited to long and now I have to pay up$$$$ Anyway, I just ordered it last week :D and will have to wait a few months, at least, to see what all the fun is about.

FYI, I ordered a Closed Bolt Mini with an extra Open Bolt conversion. They will test fire both at the factory before shipment. They (Vector) explained that it is very easy to convert a Closed Bolt to an Open Bolt (basically a drop in), but not the other way around. I wanted to have the ability for some accuracy (closed bolt) while still enjoying the blasting :uzi of a slower full auto (open bolt). Does anyone out there switch bolts like that and if so, does it really make a noticable difference in cycle rates & accuracy?

Also, I am having them thread the barrel for me for a silencer that I already have/use on an MP5 and was wondering how effective silencers are on the mini uzi's?

6050401122, I think I met your brother the other day - 6050308822.... (This is a subtle request to explain your name in this thread: http://www.uzitalk.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=254

Anyway, back to the topic at hand. I bought a Vector Mini and just received it about a month ago. It's new to me so I don't have a lot of answers at this time. I have the standard open bolt configuration and I've never shot a closed bolt version, but I'm skeptical about there being a big difference in accuracy. The cycle rate on the mini is so high that I consider that to be the limiting factor on accuracy, not open vs. closed. I'm not complaining about the cycle rate. I love the high rate and that's one of the reasons I bought it, but I think poorer accuracy is just one of the prices you have to pay with the mini. I'm not sure exactly how much open vs. closed changes the rate of fire on the Mini. Rex or someone at Vector would know. If you check with them, please post the info here.

I'm also exploring a suppressor that I could use on both my Vector mini and my MP5. Since my MP5 is not threaded, I'm looking more along the lines of getting a 3 lugged Uzi barrel. I think both Gemtech and SWR will take an ordinary Uzi barrel (full sized or mini) and convert to three lug. SWR charges $125 for the barrel conversion. I haven't heard back from Gemtech yet. Most people seem quite happy with a suppressor on an Uzi though occasionally I hear someone complain that they get far less suppression on an open bolt gun than they expected. Karl, amphibian or others with a suppressor can comment on effectiveness.

SWR charged me $135 (first week of March) for lugging a MINI barrel. It may be $10 more than the standard barrel (maybe due to the end-ported mini barrel.)

I wanted a lugged barrel for easy attach/detach and got a great deal on the SWR QD3-K 9mm subgun can so that was the way to go. Hopefully, I'll be able to post some video when the paperwork gets approved.

LRM just made a new Uzi can. I've heard great things about it.

Just out of curiosity, how would you convert open bolt to closed bolt ? By excahanging various drop in parts correct?

I don't have a mini, however, I have a Model A converted to FA by a reg'd. bolt (open bolt). I have also shot a closed bolt full size UZI that a friend has access to via his PD. I can't see any noticable difference in accuracy from one to the other while in full auto. As for ROF, the closed bolt was faster by about 100-150RPM. I used my PACT MK IV to get the ROF. I have a can for my UZI and also shot a Gemtech Raptor 3 lug setup on an UZI and a 22 can, screw on type, on a UZI. I've heard a few different cans as well on full size and minis. There isn't a real huge difference from one to the other. If you compare a cheapie to a Mossad, you're going to notice real easy though. From OB to CB, you will also notice a slightly quieter gun when it fires CB. My personal opinion is for having a quiet and comfortable shooting experience, any silencer will do. For taking out badguys and not drawing return fire, the Mossad is the only choice on an UZI. :welcome , now get to that name :biggrin2 Karl.

Wow, I have to say you guys are fast at responding to questions. I only posted this an hour or two ago and I already got 6 repsonses - awesome! Thanks for the warm welcome and quality feedback!

I agree that the cycle rate is probably the biggest factor on accuracy so I am not really expecting too much difference in accuracy between the closed and open bolt. It will be interesting to switch between the two and experiment; speed, accuracy, quietness (is quietness a word?). Of course I just ordered the gun last week and who knows when the government will decide to get around to processing my paper work, but I'll be happy to report back my findings when I finally get the mini.

In reference to my nick-name (6050401122), I didn't want to forget it so I decided to use my credit card number (VISA, expires 6/2004), just don't tell anybody about it OK? I dont' want it getting around the internet.........Just kidding - actually its my original college student file number - don't ask me what it means and why in hell I even remember it, but thats what was on my file when we converted the student records to computer files back in the last century. I had tried to register with several different names that were all taken so I knew that would not be taken. So thats it, nothing glamorous. Sorry!

As for the 3 lug, I am wondering how well that works compared to the standard screw-on, does it hold on better/worse? How about when its hot, can you take it off any easier than the screw-on type? BTW, I have not heard of the "Mossad" but will certainly check into it..........

Thanks again for your insightful responses!
