I noticed Ruben listed a Group Ind M16 for $33k on the Sturmgewehr board. Thats about the same price as a supposedly new in box Colt 16A2. Are the Group Ind guns that sought after? Wouldn't somebody rather have a Colt? Just looking for thoughts as the pricing surprised me (even for Ruben).

i am not educated on the SS lower....but from my experience selling colts----they always sell quick.....ive never had a colt for sale for more than 5 days....and i normally get full asking price....for my money id stick with the Colt....ask anyone on the Street...would you want a Colt M16 or a Group Industries M16?

the group may be special and worth the premium....but ill buy Colt

There was one that came up on the boards a few months ago and it was 21-22k if I remember correctly. It only lasted a day or two before it sold. What I heard was the buyer already had 4 or 5 of them already. There was only a hundred made of them I believe but I personally would own a SS receiver before I would own a colt. I even contemplated selling my sendra and buying the group at that price. I want a shooter and having a SS receiver is indestructible but if someone is a collector obviously the colt is more valuable to them.

The Group Industries stainless steel lowers are HEAVY DUTY and will last forever. It's more desirable to a shooter then a collector. This is the one I shoot the most.

Before I my gun and was looking I saw one for 10K when colts were going couple thousand more, I thought about it for about a hour went back online and it was sold. I was checking boards often back then and it was not online long at all. I believe I read that there were 100 of the group industries SS lowers made. They're well made and don't have to worry about wear. If there was an amnesty and you could form 1 machine gun again several people would be making them out of SS.

As the ad says, 110 SS Group Ind lowers were made as M16s. IIRC, GI also made SS lowers and left them as AR-15s, and they also converted aluminum AR-15 lowers to M16s. IIRC, GI also did conversions of semi Uzis to full auto, and maybe some other conversions to full auto as well.

MHO, YMMV, etc.

ETA: Of course GI made there own Uzis and the receivers that were built into Uzis by Vector, but that's sort of like saying that as well as being a convicted felon and tv and movie star, O.J. Simpson also played some football.

If I had one, that lower would be stripped of paint and left in its glorious natural stainless-steel finish/color.
The only hard part would be deciding between mirror polished or a brushed finish!
brushed on upper. mirror/engraved on lower:

I'd guess about half of the SS GI M16 lowers that I've seen for sale on the internet were bare, unpolished (and unbrushed) SS. I don't recall ever seeing pics of one polished.

That polished ss would look good on the 16.

Does anyone know if Ruben is ever negotiable on his listed prices?

It's worth a try. I talked Ruben into a higher # than his original offer for a 16 I sold him. All he can say is "no".
