Golani Galil handguard mods

I bought a Century Golani Galil yesterday and am looking to make my first mods. Anyone out there replace the stock handguards with real wood Galil handguards with bipods? I believe there is a bracket on the barrel that my weapon is lacking.

You have a stock AR handguard retainer-- it lacks the bipod leg holders and the dual ring for the carry handle. You need an ARM type.
If your gun also lacks the two-pinholes on the gas block, it cannot mount a bipod without replacing it with an ARM gas block.
Real wood grips you can get from http://www.silvercrescentindustries.com/ if you have the pin-holed gas block. The rear handguard retainer you can find on AKpartskits.com or gunbroker if you're lucky.

Galil gas tube length

Here's another question for you: are the SAR and AR gas tubes the same length? I understand the SAR has a shorter barrel, but that doesn't necessarily affect the gas tube length, does it?

SAR gas tube and piston are different.
But there are 2 different types of SAR gas blocks.
The ones in most of the kits from APEX don't have bayo lugs- they are shorter on the bottom than the ones with the bayo lug.
This compensates for the pin on lug that usually goes behind the gas block.
Rule of thumb- the front of the gas block goes forward to the edge of the gas block flat on the barrel.

AKpartskits were the only ones that had them. Unfortunately, they sold out of the AR length tubes about a year ago.
