Lets get real, people are scared they are going to ban machine guns and these are expensive. A guy has a mac, an Uzi, and an HK sear; he figures sell the HK and hedge his bets.

I think this is why you're seeing all kinds of weird stuff like stoner 63A, broomhandle Mausers, and random expensive rare guns all of a sudden. Your M16, your Mac, and Uzi keep you in the game but that rare stuff that you don't really shoot because there are no parts for it? If the pressure stays on with this ban it movement, the floodgates are going to open for the "investment" items.

I think the market has topped out temporarily on HKs. I wanted a RR HK for a while, but I have a sear so no real need for a RR.

I see a RR like a numismatic gold coin. When a thing has high intrinsic value and high uniqueness value you end up with a thing that's too precious to enjoy.

I want one - but the price has gone to a point where I'm really questioning it. If I do make the jump it'll be a sear gun - so I can at least have a few hosts for it.

That is true! However - Im looking at an HK51 and 21 as the real real reason I want a sear. Otherwise Id just save up for an M60.

The prices are so extreme now for one gun, what's the point? There are enough FFLs doing machine gun rentals with pre and post samples that why bother with ownership? I can spend a couple hundred bucks a few times a year to shoot a wide variety of MP5s, including a former 10mm FBI gun. I don't have to lay out $35-45K and deal with paperwork or other hassles.

About 15 years ago I was talking to this one wealthy guy about finances and ownership and as he explained he rented everything that had a high cost of ownership and that he didn't use often. That philosophy has served me well and I rent everything from Ferraris, vacation homes, race cars, machine guns, boats, etc and live a varied and free life as I'm not paying taxes, bureaucratic government costs, maintenance, storage, security, etc.

And while I own stamps there is a indoor range a mile up the road that does rent MG's and they rent the stuff we can't get for any amount of money.
Like the Kriss, G18, DPM, Factory H&K416, FA S12 and a pile of others.

Anywhere from 10 to 80 bux a gun and ammo cost for a 1/2 hour range time.

While I haven't rented a MG from them yet, I'm thinking more and more about renting the Kriss for a 1/2 hour.

While I don't consider any MG out of my financial price range I do find any gun over 20K morally out of my price range.

The older I get the the less I want another MG I just passed on one two months ago.
Instead I bought other guns like another 50 BMG two rifles and a couple of handguns.

I got more bang for my buck and I bought high end title one guns that will retain value and will be easy to sell due to two main reasons.
Price and only a 4473 on the handguns, or long guns if shipped. Instead of all the paperwork and wait time that we as stamp collectors are used to doing.

I went through a period of buying full autos and bypassing other collectible title1 guns. I am not complaining as on an average it has close to tripled in price. Subgun matches keep me interested and shooting my class 3 but I find myself enjoying cowboy matches, IDPA, CMP, sporting clays and other events just as much. 30k buys a LOT of other collectibles that have price increase potential as well. With that said, every time we think the transferable market has topped out, it continues to somehow creep up.

True story - if someone would sell me a Sear, host gun (MP5k or 51/53k) for 34/35 large, Id be on it. I know the price will keep creeping.

I am a recent buyer of a sear, and I can tell you what guided me to an HK sear: Versatility, and safety.

There are a wide variety of host guns you can plug an HK sear into, and even if things go terribly wrong (KB, etc), the sear likely won't be damaged. I would love an M16, price wise it's only a short jump from an RR Colt M16 to an HK sear...but if I have a KB with an RR M16, it might destroy my investment (I don't look at it as an investment, but it is). The RR M16 is riskier than an HK sear. Of course, a DIAS for an M16 would be sweet, too, but that's a much more hefty jump over the price of an HK sear.

I'm also banking on the sear retaining it's value, but if I need money, it's a semi-liquid asset. If I never need to sell it, I probably won't... but even when it's worth $50K, I can still shoot the hell out of it, because the likely hood of damaging it is low.
