Galil recoil assembly

Anyone know why IMI made two versions of the recoil assembly for Galils - one 13.5 inches and the shorter version at 13 inches. I believe the longer version was for later production of the Galil.

The ARM and AR took the same. The SAR, short assault rifle had a shorter gas system.

My SAR and AR spring assemblies are the same overall length.

The micro Galil spring assembly may be shorter if the receiver is shorter.

Ummm. Is there agreement that the shorter (16 inches overall) recoil assembly if for the micro Galil only and not including the SAR? I'm sure the longer assembly is for the AR and ARM. And the shorter version is for . . .?

The SAR and AR/ARM recoil assembly is the same length. Likely the same spring rate too. I just measured my AR and SAR assemblies before posting.

I have not had the chance to play with a micro yet.


Since the receivers and carriers are the same in the SAR/AR/ARM it makes sense that the recoil ass lies will be the same length. The only difference between a SAR and a AR/ARM is the barrel length, gas tube length and piston length. The rest is exactly the same.

Missed one. A fourth difference is that the SAR gas block is shorter, with or without bayonet lug.

That's more of a cosmetic difference. The sight height should be the same. My AR has the bipod mount where my SAR has the bayonet lug.

I do believe the barrel journal at the gas block is a different diameter too.
