That was my first thought, it just did not look like there was very much material removed. Thanks for the insight. It does look awesome and the engraving really makes it stand apart from the rest of the crowd.

With a heavy rifle, the makers will often look at different ways to cut back on weight.

Lightening cuts is only one way.

It's true that one lightening cut will not pare off that much weight, but, the cumulative weight savings from all weight saving efforts can be substantial.

Other weight savings efforts may include a lightweight folding stock vs. heavier full stock, plastic vs. steel mags, etc.

For instance, I notice a very big difference is weight savings using Orlite mags over the steel mags.

Especially when carrying 6 or 7 of them.

Every little bit helps and each little weight saving bit adds up.

And it is appreciated, especially if you lug the rifle and mags around all day.

Galil Receiver

I offer the following for your Galil receiver.
1) Check the hardness- 41-45 Rockwell.
I stamp the number into the receiver above the lightening cut. Why?
The original military receiver i have has a two digit number there so
i stamp there.
2) Engrave the Izzy military info like the receiver i have.
Under no circumstances will i copy the IMI logo, designation or the
word galil-Please don't even ask! Can you say Lawsuit!!!
3) Do the lightening cut on the right side. I've been asked to do the cut on
the left for an R4 build but the scope mount won't allow this. ORF won't
do a receiver without the scope mount so all the R4 builders will have to
wait a while longer for a correct receiver.

I charge $150.00 + return shipping.
If you are interested PM me or call.
Turnaround has been averaging 2-4 weeks depending on machine time.
Thanks and have a Galil day!

Absolutely beautiful work, Tenngalil.

I have not seen any better and nobody does it all one-stop-shop like you do.

Just to clarify.

You will not engrave an IMI (Israel Military Industries) logo/crest due to legal concerns.

IMI logo/crest shown here:

http://www.brandsoftheworld.com/catalogue/I/177294.html

BUT...

You will engrave an IDF (Israel Defense Forces) logo/crest.

IDF crest shown here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Israel_Defense_Forces

The IDF logo/crest is what is engraved on military issue Galils.

Correct?

ETA: The fact that you check the hardness of each receiver is brilliant!

AFAIK, you are the only builder to do this. Keeps things clear and nips the bogus fingerpointing in the bud.

Another quality control step that puts you firmly in the QUALIFIED builder category.

A rest? No. Not usually.

I don't much cotton to sleazy smear campains.

Most of the sleazy smear campaign yahoos from the 'other site' are always harping on their 'soft receiver' lie.

If you check hardness...good for you.

"If" most gunsmiths check hardness...there wouldn't be the persistence of the sleazy smear campain....now, would there?

None of the lying slandering sleazy smear campaign yahoos from the 'other site' (now attempting to bring their sewage here) have tested for hardness.

And a lot of them were claiming to be 'gunsmiths'.

That doesn't square with what you say about 'most' gunsmiths.

So...why don't you give it a rest?
