I don't even want to think about it. Suppressor check cashed on oct.15th, m11 check cashed on dec21st. I have some waiting to do. :( Maybe I should just try to start another stamp every two or three months, that way when they start to show up the wait won't seem so bad. That could get expensive though.

That's what I do! Think about this, if we are 6 months now and there is no new funding given to ATF and more people keep buying SBR's, SBS, Suppressors and MG's the wait is going to keep getting longer and longer. I look for it to get about a year turn around time, maybe even longer. Remember the guberment doesn't want us to own these weapons.

has anyone else noticed a lot of the slowdown magically happened in july when they re-aligned the inspectors by state? I mean it was slow before but not 5 months + slow.

It doesn't seem to me like it "magically" happened; looks to me it's just been going slower and slower overall. My local dealers were typically seeing ~4.5mo transfer times back in June/July, so the increase to ~5mo isn't really that magical or extreme.

SBRs, SBSs, and suppressors are becoming more and more "normal". MG's probably would be more "normal" too if it wasn't for the prohibitive cost of ownership/limited supply.

If you think it's bad now, just wait; the NRA has begun showing interest in NFA items and as they get word to the masses and they decide to jump in the pool, the waits are sure to increase.

I thought that's what TV shows like "Son's of Guns" was doing......

From a little over 3 month turn around on my first paperwork (april-july) to 5 months + is pretty quick.

Philip: You must have been using a dealer who was assigned to a light-workload set of dealer initials. As I mentioned above, my dealer (initial "L") was seeing just under 5 months prior to the change, and is now seeing just over 5 months; i.e. minimal impact.

89lx: So far as I know, SoG has yet to specifically cover the legalities of NFA ownership and the steps necessary to make it happen. I've also yet to see an episode dedicated to the personal-safety merits of suppressors. Not to mention the fact that a lot of folks have come to presume that "reality tv" has little to do with reality and they may extend that idea to believe that NFA toys are just hollywood "show". It's one thing if you have some knowledge of guns; it's another when you're in the "I don't understand why guns are legal, but I'm curious about them" camp.

Spoke with an examiner on Monday and was told 6 months due to a significant backlog. this was coming from someone who is know to be very efficient in getting form 4's out in a timely manner. Not sure if this is a standard reply nowadays but we can hope not. NFA = patience

Sillycon: Yep, that was kinda' my point. A lot of people watch the show and think they can just walk in, fill out a form (like at any gun show), and walk out with a MG or can.

For example, a friend of mine really likes the show. He knows that I have Title II weapons, so he asked me "what he had to do to get is class III permit so that he could convert his AR to select fire". So I gave him a brief history of the NFA, and tried to explain transferable items verses pre and post samples. I talked about RR, RDIAS, and RLL for the AR. By the end, his eyes just kinda’ glazed over.

I would think that it would be great if they just took 10 minutes out of one show and did the same sort of thing. Of course, I doubt that anybody would want to buy advertising time for that, or at least that is what the producers would say.

RRO: Agreed. I too like the show. Don't blame Will one bit that the producers won't let him take time to explain.

But back to the origianal comment, I too think that SoG (and the other shows) have added to an increase in Title II transfers. Which is a good AND bad thing?!?!?

My most recent was approved in October, was three months and ten days from pending.

Form 4 - individual transfer. Not my first transfer.

Nicole Dudash - examiner

Form sent – July 5, 2011
Form arrived (registered mail) – July 11, 2011 (6 days)
Check cashed (cleared bank) – July 19, 2011 (8 days)
Went pending – July 26, 2011 (7 days)
Approved – Dec 31, 2011 (5 months and 5 days)
Stamp received – Jan 6, 2012 (6 days)

My observation, I was approved on a Saturday, New Years Eve of all days. Leaves me with the impression that they are trying to get caught up.
