FNC Para Failure to Feed

Friend picked up a Para model with a full auto conversion and we went to the range yesterday for the first time. We ran a few mags with no issues but 4th mag started to jam every few rounds. Did the usual, lubed the bolt, tried different mags, different ammo, no change. Close inspection showed copper mark of the barrel face just below the chamber chamfer on the right side. Rounds show the same issue with blunt nose and bent/crushed cases. Left side feed seems to be fine. Right one seems to be too low allowing the bullet nose to impact the barrel face. Spent cases always extracted and ejected normally and never left in the receiver during jams. I'm new to FNC Para rifles and need some advice. I have reasonable gunsmith skills and have built many different rifles. So, shoot me some intel on what to look for and how to fix it. Thanks for your help.

Stay away from the aluminum GI mags, sloppy magazine release tolerances allowed mag to move. Had that problem when i first got it in the late 80's with my FNC Para semi. It did not like them. Always use the factory steel FN mags, or the Canadian thermolds and you won't have a problem. Good fit/ lock-up in the gun. IMI/IWI israel makes steel mags for the Tavor and I have seen them for about $16 lately and I have one. It does appear on par in fit and quality with the original FNC steel factory mags. You can also use the FN SCAR or FS2000 mags but watch out, the originals were steel like the FNC mags but some of the newer ones appear to be aluminum now.

I have this issue as well when using older usgi mags; whenever it happened it would do the same as your friend's, in that it would smash the round perfectly at the shoulder. My FNC likes the CProducts stainless mags with anti tilt follower. It also works great with Pmags, although some take a little effort to lock up, they run 100%.

I've used steel Belgian mags, alum D & H Ind and P-mags in both of mine with no problems at the range. I do have to say I think the P-mags feed more smoothly than the alum, but it's strange that the only mags that gave me a possible issue were the P-mags. When I first got them, I was a little concerned because of the way the feed lips would spread and the snap cap rnds would almost end up side by side instead of staggered. That only happened after repeated inserts. Also, when I would cycle said rnds, I would always end up with the next to last rnd taking a nose dive and catch on the face of the barrel. To be fair, I was riding the bolt handle home instead letting it go forward on its own. Have'nt had ANY problems at the range, so try a P-mag and see if the issue goes away.

My FNC likes any mag with an anti-tilt follower installed, including the green GI followers.

Also make sure that your mag spring in not installed backwards. There is a right way to install them.

Range Update.

My buddy picked up 3 factory FN steel mags and they did the trick. Ran flawlessly. Thanks to everyone for their help. He is one happy camper.:banana
