Darn, still don't have my UZI Conversion pictorial/article done yet. I wish I did, then I could just point people to it.
For the full size UZI, Fleming did a "basic" and "deluxe" conversion.
The main thing is that in both cases, he removed the bolt blocking rail.
There is an ATF letter to Bardwell, that basically states that if you have a RR UZI that has had the bolt blocking rail removed, you can do everything else to bring it up to SMG spec.
The issue is who knows what was done after it left Fleming.
A lot of time has passed since then unless you know the history of the gun.
Back to the Basic vs Deluxe. The Basic conversions, he left the semi auto model A or B markings on the receiver. He may have left a semi sear in the lower and marked the lower for the "A" but not bothered to try to change the "F" to an "R".
On the Deluxe, he enlarged the opening on the bottom of the receiver to accept a factory SMG sear. He also remarked the receiver to say UZI SMG (yes I know it should be SMG UZI instead). He also remarked the lower to be correct.
Things he did NOT do but you can get done or possibly was already done to this gun by someone other than Fleming.
1. install a bushing so that the receiver will accept a factory SMG lower
2. Mill out the barrel restrictor ring OR just trim the top of it so an unmodified SMG bolt will drop in.
3. Re-mark the receiver for SMG UZI
4. Enlarge the end of the trunnion to accept unmodifed SMG barrels.
In any case, I've never seen an UZI that couldn't be made to run. Most always run in the first place.
