Hello all,

I’m new to the Uzi and the Uzi forum, and was hoping to get some advice here. I think I’ve settled on a semi-automatic IMI model A or B. Any opinions on this are welcome. I’ve read that these were designed for a 10” barrel and, with the now required 16” barrel, they shoot high (I think it was high). Is this the case? Do the sights allow for enough adjustment to compensate for this?

Also, can anyone recommend a dealer and suggest a relative price I should expect to pay.

All suggestions and opinions are appreciated (going way out on a limb here). Thanks.

:welcome Curt. First, the Model A sights are the same as the SMG sights and therefore made to work with a 10" barrel. The Model B sights were unique, and made to work with a 16" barrel. Since both a Model A and B must have a 16" barrel, the Model B is the best way to go if you plan on keeping the gun as is. But, you could also get the Model A, and put the 10" barrel on it via a $200.00 tax and the required ATF Form 1. It's not that the gun shoots high or low, period. The issue is that if you have a 16" barrel on the Model A, sight it in at 100 yards, then when you flip the rear peep to the 200 yard position, it will be off (shoot high). Karl.

Yes, welcome Curt. For the $200 tax you can turn an A or B into something like this:

(Note: the above is full-auto, but it looks the same as the semi w/10" bbl.)

BTW, Karl, are you OK? Your post is so...subdued. -Z

By all means, SBR it while that's still legal.

Question for the board's scholars: Can you put a K grip on a SBR or any other rifle for that matter?

K grips on pistols makes them AOWs which is one of the more stupid ATF rulings.

I removed my avatar and sigline prior to closing out my account here. Due to recent events I resigned my position here and will be closing my account after I finish a few transactions with other board members. I'll miss you all, good luck and take care. Karl. :cry

You have no clue how much I wish I could. I'll be around for a few more days anyway. After that, anyone that wants to chat can always catch me on MSN Messenger or one of my other boards that I have Frequent Posting Miles at. :D Karl.

Curt, Welcome to UZI Talk. As Karl suggested, the Model B is a better option if you're looking for a shooter. The sights are easier to adjust and are better suited to the 16" barrel. Also, the model B has an extra safety defice on the bolt so that it won't fire out of battery.

Check the auction sites (www.auctionarms.com and www.gunbroker.com). Lots of semi's pop up there although the price is usually too high. You should be able for get a model B that's almost NIB for $1100 or less.

To all,

Thanks for the warm welcome and the good advice. You've definitely given me some options to think about. Muzzleflash mentioned SBR. I assume this has something to do with the short barrel (10"). Can someone provide a link or site that I can read up on this and the $200 tax?

Z06, nice weapon. I'd love to get the full auto, but right now I just can't justify it in my mind. Actually, the bigger reason is that I'm between perminent homes right now. One day though, and until then I'll have to settle for semi-auto. By the way, nice hits on the bunny.

Karl, I've only been on this forum for a short while, but could tell you were a driving force. I know you'll be missed. Take it easy. See you at the range.

Curt, for info on SBR's, check out the BATF and Legal Issues page in the library. That will give you info on the forms and the process. SBR requires that you do a form 4 just like buying a machine gun. The difference is that an individual can make an SBR but only a class II manufacturer can make a machine gun since 1986.

Making an SBR out of an UZI is easy. The downside that turn some people away is that you have to stamp your name and address on the receiver because you are considered to be remanufacturing the gun.

Buy yourself a Model B and enjoy it for a while. Then you can decide if you want to convert it to SBR or not.

Some day will never come if you don't do it soon. The prices are getting out of sight as we speak. I bought a Vector SMG last year for $2700. Now they sell for $4200 or so. It never seeces amazes me that so many people have no problem borrowing $20,000 to $30,000 for a car that depreciates faster than they can pay for it, but the same people cringe at the thought of borrowing $5000 for a machinegun that goes up in value regardless of how much you use it. Do it now and you won’t regret it. If you do regret it just sell it and pocket the money you will make on the deal. It will be worth more than you paid by the time the forms are approved. Send me a PM if you would like to come over to the dark side and I can give you some pointers. I am in Houston too and that presents its own little challenges. It is not impossible.
