First Galil in 5.56 - very impressed!

I picked up my first .223 Galil (386 model) on Sunday and took it out for it's first range trip this evening - very impressive! The rifle is very easy to shoot, with low recoil, and was surprisingly accurate at 100 yds. I was getting groups of 5 right in the 0.8-1.5 MOA range with my own 55 gr. reloads. Not too shabby for a Kalashnikov!

Is this pretty typical accuracy for these rifles?

Also...my flashhider was coming loose at the range. Are these supposed to have a crush washer to keep them in place? It's the Israeli style FH with the wire spring clip for launching grenades.

If you tighten it down by hand you should be good, though you can use a crush washer or jamb nut if you'd like. I believe the way it's supposed to work is that barrel rifling and muzzle device threading are supposed to impart forces on the md in such a way that it tightens rather than loosens...

I snugged it up with a wrench (cold), yet it still came loose during very light use - 5 shot groups with time in between to cool.

I guess I'll try some blue Loc-tite and see if that does the trick.

Thanks.

Cool deal, believe IWI US was selling NOS IMI jamb nuts. But a 5.56 AR crush washer should suffice I'd think (haven't tried). CNCW sells both 5.56 and 7.62x39 crush washers among others, so they'd certainly have something that'd work.

Depending on witch flash hidder/muzzle break you have, some of the original ones have a allen set screw to hold them on tight.

I've tested the 5.56 Galil fairly extensively, mostly at 200yds. It's very accurate for what it is.

The 7.62 version didn't do very well though I've met other people who said it worked great for them.

Go figure.

Yeah, my 329 is more difficult to shoot. I think I tend to start anticipating the recoil after a few shots with it which is not good for accuracy!
