I wanna put a suppressor mount on my AC (when I get it)

Does the factory muzzle thingy for the AC556 just thread off, or is it pinned or welded on?

Yes. I replaced mine with a rethreaded A1 from an M16.

I wanted to use a can on my AC but Dr. Dater of Gemtech advised against it. He said the light, whippy barrel of the Ruger would lead to baffel strikes. These are NOT good in a 5.56mm weapon.

flash hider

Greetings all, The flash hider does screw of, how ever if your "can" uses the same thread pitch as the M16 or Ar15 you will need an adaptor. The very nice people at Tactical Innovations sell the adaptors. Also the people at the "Riddle of Steel" web site. Mark willis. Prices vary, around $60.00 per.
The people at Tactical Innovations were very prompt in shipping.

AAC sells an AC556 threaded can mount that'll work for my M4-2000.

Question -

Do ya think the 13" barrel is too whippy, or just the longer barrel?

I don't think baffle strike would be a issue with either barrel as long as the can is tight. However, the 13 inch barrel would certainly be much stiffer. Beachinbeemer has a couple of different cans for his AC556 and has had no complaints. I have mounted his cans via a Tros adapter to my 18 inch rifle a couple of times and they seemed to work well for me.

I had the 13" bbl. AC and talked to Dater 3 times in person about this. YMMV

I've threaded a few of the AC barrels 1/2-28 and I have never seen the existing barrel threads run true to the bore... IMHO YMMV

This information from M60joe coupled with the fact that we all know Doctor Phil Dater doesn't know the first thing about suppressors... well I'd just replace the "thingie" with an adapter and call it good. :rolleyes

On another note, I noticed John Travolta using an AC-556k in the movie Broken Arrow as well as a Beretta M93R. There was also a Beretta PM-12S used as well. Interesting selection of full auto weapons.

Whoa, hold up here. I had GemTech mod my AC556 flash suppressor to use with a HALO. I talked to Doc on the phone about it for a few minutes, and he never mentioned anything about the Ruger being prone to baffle strikes. Plus, he did the mod for free.

Be sure the can is snug!!! I got a slight strike when the can came loose. It doesn't take much to loosen then they flop around. I use a round crush washer like on the new AR15s. Check it after every mag.

Doc Dater specifically says not to use crush washers, as they don't "crush" evenly, and can cause misalignment. Peel washers are the recommended equipment, at least for GemTech cans.

Had four strikes in a TAC-16 using a TROS adapter on a 13" folder. This was after maybe two 30rnd mags. They DO come loose easy. The can is still usable but I think Im done with suppressors on it for a while.

Was it because the can came loose, or because of a whippy barrel?

I have the regular 13inch barrel on my AC and I LOVE the GB flash hider that Ruger puts on their guns. I love the look of them so much more than the A1 bird cage suppressors. I would never change the factory flash hiders that Ruger uses. Of course thats just me and my personal taste.....:cool

I'd like to blame it on something like a whippy barrel. Truth is, I just dont know. Some of it was my fault for letting the assnut next to me distract me long enough not to notice.
