I am going to add a FAL selector to the RH side of my FNC. The axle of the FNC selector is hardened. I need to anneal, then reharden. Has anyone done this?
Based on past experience, I will heat the axle orange, drill, tap and mill the slot for the FAL selector to interface with, then heat orange again, and drop in diesel.

I will most definitely post pics. Also, a metal-worker friend suggested to use canola oil or transmission fluid as a quenchant, instead of diesel.

Ambi-selector completed. Lots of hand-fitting/file work. Most nerve-wracking part was tapping the 8-32 threads. I was worried about breaking the tap. If you do this job yourself, go very slowly with the tap, like a 1/16 of a turn each pass, followed by reverse chip-breaking. I used a USA-made bottoming tap from Amazon, and it cut very well.
Changing selector position with the trigger finger is great improvement, as you can imagine.
Selector end was heated orange to anneal. I may re-harden, but it’s probably not necessary.
Tried posting pix, but error message says files are too big. How do I reduce the file size of photos on an iPhone?
