Finally....after almost a year and half....FS Vector home to roost!

The FA bug had been nibbling on me for years. While in the service i got to play with M-60's and M-16's but that was years ago. A bit of money fell my way and after a bit of a search, found a FS Vector for sale on a form four. After a bit of negoiating i paid $3250 for it. This was in January of 2003. So i file my paperwork with LEO, Las Vegas Metro PD, and oh sorry...you had an arrest back in 1981. NOT a conviction mind you, just an arrest. Paperwork returned to me unsigned.

Fine....if they dont want to know i have it....F**K them. Went the corporate route. Not as expensive as you might think but took a while, mostly in part to me having other irons in the fire.

Paperwork with corporation info listed and arrived at ATF on March 16th, dealer received paperwork back on May 19th. While i was glad to get the paperwork back, i think sticking it to the cops and keeping them in the dark about me having it was more gratifying!!!!!

Brought her home and stripped her down. Gun was spotless except just a bit dry for my liking before firing. Wal Mart had white box Winchester for $10.97/100. Bought 10 boxes, dropped by the house and picked up the gun, wifey insisted on going, off we truck to a area in desert everyone shoots at.

Out of 400 or so rounds i had one FTF...gun fired, case extracted, but new round not picked up out of magazine. Now as we drove to the place to shoot we passed one vehicle. After we had fired 200-250 rounds vehicles slowly materialized around us. The other people were shooting but when my wife or i shot the UZI all other firing quit. On guy was there that i knew slightly and he came up and talked a bit. Let him shoot it a bit THEN:

A guy approached stating that full auto weapons were illegal and wasn't i taking a chance in firing it here? I nicely informed him that FA was legal if you jumped through the correct hoops. He was adament that it was illegal and expressed this opinion in a loud manner. We fired approximately 150 more rounds over a half hour or so. This guy finally stated "someone" should call 911 (we were having too much fun without him?). At this point i was just tired of him. I told him to fine, call 911, but please dont bother me when you do it, call from your car. He told me i was a "smartass"...i couldnt argue with that, at times i am, but told him just to MYOB. After more of the same comments from him I ultimately got tired of him and told him to "F off". He left in a tizzy. NOT the way i wanted it to come out, but IMHO he had several options.
1. join us, i would have shared
2. ignore us...HE was the one that stopped and starting shooting where we were, there were/is alot of different places to shoot here.
3. report us. If he truly thought a unlawful act/unsafe act were occuring CALL 911.

He chose option 4, mouth off his opinion and be loud about it.

Bottom line though...gun functioned fine...couple questions maybe you can help me with:
1. comments on bozo welcome...how would you have responded. I had my form 4 with me, but didn't see how i had any obligation to show it too him...his attitude was what pissed me off more than anything.
2. what type of case does everyone like best...BABY needs a warm place to sleep!
3. the white boxed Winchester seemed to run fine...Was going to buy S & B, heard good things about it, but does it matter? The Winchester seem to run great and is fairly cheap @ $118/1000.
3. what is everyone's favorite lube?

1) Don't show your form 4 to anybody that doesn't identify themselves as police and flashes a badge. If they say they're a cop and don't show identification, YOU call 911 for impersonating a police officer. Anybody else, tell them to go screw and call the cops if they feel so inclined.

2) I use a Blackhawk case I bought from Vector. It's the MP5 one. It's big enough to hold my gun and all my mags neatly. Worth the $70. You could easily use something else like a tennis racket bag.

3) I've only shot Winchester white box 100 packs, no problems here. I shot 2k rounds on my first day though.

4) It's not good to lube up the entire inside of the gun IMO. It lets dirt cling all over it. The winchester stuff flakes off brass that will stick to any lube in the receiver channel. The back of the reciever channel is the ugliset place to have buildup. Shoot your gun a while and you will see park wear which shows the contact points of the bolt on the channel. I like to use Tetra grease on all contact points on the bolt, on the 2 lines on the bottom of the receiver channel, and 2 lines on the topcover. It keeps chugging away fine. Oil just gets everywhere, grease stays on point of contact and is less messy. I clean up with CLP and wipe down dry then apply grease. It stays relatively clean.

1. You're a better man than I am, I'd have told him to F off right from the get go, as I hate and have no patience for people like that.

2. I have a Blackhawk Discreet SMG case from Vector Arms. I love it and recommend it.

3. Winchester white box is the dirtiest crap I've ever put through my Uzi. I won't use it anymore. IMO, you can't go wrong with S&B or the new polymer coated Wolf.

4. Good ole Hoppe's #9 gun oil.

Welcome to the NFA world. And congrats on the weapon.

I truly try to be a champion of the second amendment. I have a couple of guns most non-savvy gun people havent seen like a HK SL-8/Colt Commando/etc and if a bit of interest is shown have no problem letting them shoot them. Like everyone else safety is my prime consideration. Met some great people shooting and hope that i lit a bug under them that not all gun nuts are extremist...but this guy was just a whiner...

Congratulations on the new addition to your family. You are in for a lifetime of fun.

So far I have been lucky in missing the sort of people that you ran into at the range. You handled the situation fine, and in fact better than I would have. I think the worst remark I have had at the range with my uzi was someone stating "what a nice cobray you have".:buttkick

I have both private and corporate owned NFA for more that 8 years. I have some words of advice that will share with you. You can take it or leave it.

First, regarding the corporation: Make sure that you keep you paperwork up to date. Each year you MUST file a Federal tax form 1120 (even if you don't make any profit in the corp.). I live in Texas, so I must also fill out a corporate franchise tax form each year. However, there is no franchise tax due if the corp. makes no income and the corp. assets are less than 40K. Check to see what your regulations are and abide by them. Nothing worse than having your corporation fall out of good standing and then all of your corporate NFA become illegal.

Second, in addition to carrying a COPY of your F4 (NEVER CARRY THE ORIGINAL... It should be locked up in a safety deposit box) with your gun, you should also have a copy of your corporate resolution which specifies that you have authorization to possess the corporate NFA items. You should also have something that identifies you as a corporate officer such as a business card. This leaves no doubt should you encounter a LEO as to the fact that you are in lawful possession of NFA items.

Finally, regarding the yahoo who was causing you trouble: My advice would be to avoid drawing crowds... Yes, it is cool to have NFA items, but you never know who might want to liberate your NFA items from you by learing where you live and robbing you. If anyone asks just tell them you have approval from the US Government. This usually shuts them up as they try to guess who you work for :D If they are nice, I usually give them a copy of James Bardwell's NFA FAQ and let them shoot a few mags through my guns. As others have said, do not show your F4s to anyone other than an LEO who has shown you valid ID. Never let anyone copy your F4!

Above all be safe and have fun!

Mike

Congrats on the new toy!

1. I would have egged him on to call the cops and then really pissed him off by letting the cops join in on the NFA fun.

2. I use the Uncle Mikes SMG case and I'm really happy with it.

3. I have only used Win white box in mine but I'm going to try the new Wolf next. A place by me carries the new Wolf for $79/1000rds.

4. Spray everything with Break Free CLP, put in plastic bag, and then let sit overnight. Next morning scrub with nylon brush and then wipe everything out. Coat all contact areas with Tetra Grease.

Congrats on the UZI!!

You did a great job on handling the idiot.

I've run Uly, Wolf, Hotshot and others (all 124 gr.) in my Vector, and they all feed fine.

Break Free CLP works fine for me.

Ditto on RoverDave's comment about seeing you at next year's shoot.

When someone offers advice because they are in a simular situation and offer it, as you did, in a helpful manner, i think the person would be a fool not to take the advice.

original form 4 is tucked nicely in the safety deposit box, i have several color copies. Have a letter stating i can possess the firearm and carry both business cards and ID from the corporation.

There wasn't any attempt to gather a crowd. This was on BLM land that some of the Uzi talk members shot on during the shoot. We passed one car on the way to where we stopped...the others just magically appeared.

My Form 1s & 4s have taken anywhere...

from 3 weeks to 7 months with 90 daze as typical. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. A good examiner seems to be the key to reasonable processing times!

A year & 1/2... good grief!
BATFE certainly has taught me the meaning of the word "patience".
Congratulations are in order!
:)

When I shoot anymore... I get a membership at a private range to shoot the smgs. The precision rifles go to Lake City for sight-in & function testing. Even the M16 goes for fine tuning... but NOT on rapid-fire. When I get serious... I go to private land... a farm belonging to relatives.

The problem with public access on unsupervised land is just as you have encountered. Situations can get out of control & head south before you realize it. I choose to avoid such encounters for that very reason. When I bring NFA weapons... I ALWAYS carry a 3 ring binder with my FFL & all approved Form copies. If L.E. were to inquire... I have absolutely NO problem showing him my paperwork. Anyone else can take a hike. You might carry a few blank Form 4s with you with instructions & pass them out like party favors to the *unenlightened*.
;)

I just picked up a couple of cases of USA9MMVP this weekend at WallyWorld & I'm ready to burn some. IMHO... it's pretty decent ammo!

BTW: The Blackhawk cases are superb & fairly discrete in appearance. I have one.

Whenever I get a new gun... I strip it down & examine it for potential problems... clean it thoroughly... soak it in EEZOX (wipe dry)... & lube the main contact points with white lithium grease.

"Ask your Doctor... if... UZI... is right for you!"
:)

Happiness is a warm Uzi...

Congrats. I'm hoping to do something similar in the near future should my finances hold up.

I'm curious about one thing. Was the CLEO's response to your arrest typical, or do most consider the actual circumstances? It certainly seems there are no hard and fast rules that these folks follow.

I originally sent the paperwork in to one of this Deputy (dog) Chief's who was over the CCW detail. Got a nice letter back that said because of the prior arrest they were unable to approve the request. I sent out a letter to the Sheriff with all the previous paperwork explaining the arrest. A call to the city the arrest occured gave me how to get a copy of the arrest. I filed this and received a letter back that the report couldn't be located. I also provided the Sheriff with this information.

I received a nice letter back from the Sheriff that stated he seen no reason to reverse what the Deputy Chief findings were.

Fine. Screw them. The corporate transfer took a lot longer, part of it was my procastination but VERY rewarding...feel like i kinda stuck it to the Sheriff. IF he would have signed off on the form 3 he would have know where the full auto weapon went...With the corporate transfer option they dont have a clue where the auto weapons are....

I've often wondered why an arrest (or even a conviction on a minor charge) should be such a big deal with NFA weapons. It's not like this means someone is running around in a double-breasted suit, a fedora, and a tommy gun, and bootlegging whiskey across the Canadian border. :cool

My story

I was at a gun show in Yankton South Dakota when one of the Vendors made the gun show promotor ask me and my illegal shotgun to leave. I explained to him I was fine and the number for the local police was 911 and asked if he needed help dialing. Then I proceeded on with the show.

LVHospiceRN, Congratulations on the new addition!!!!! I occasionally work with this at my shop. Find the date of arrest, the charge & contact your senator/representative or shop for a lawyer. Find out if expungement is possible, it probably is. I asked a customer/lawyer how much, he stated $300. You could probably find one cheaper though. Good Luck!!!!
