Anyone tried the Canis/Texas AK Designs AR Mag adapter? Is it any better than the Magnoila or Blackthorne ones that get terrible reviews?

I have no experience with the mag adapters, however, Canis Design Yugo AK buttstock adapters are really nice.

All I've read says for the Ak's they work great, well made & nice looking. the only issue is you have to trim the adapter or trim inside your magwell to fit it it, so I would assume they would be the same for the Galil..I'm getting 1 for my current 5.56 ak build.

I pondered the whether to add onto my 556 AK kit myself. Mostly because the reputation the Canis adapter has acquired.

Seems like the same outfit. I won't spend another cent with them after getting screwed around by them. Gave them several years to make it right too.

CANIS Design Group is a dealer for Texas AK Designs, so is Cobra's Custom and Seraphim Tactical.

While it's true MSA had issues in the past. Between one of the owners passing away (leaving just myself), Paypal seizing our account, Ben Cannon of GunPal about bankrupting us from his ponzi scheme holding vendors and customers money (google GunPal for the whole story) and my design (Bill Davis) engineer passing away from cancer (December 2010 during the Valmet adapter introduction) I had a rough time getting leveled out. People expected more than what I (as the only employee left) was capable of at the time. In short it was a cluster fuck. My focus was on righting what I could and putting out what fire I could. I was working 60-80 hours a week with two jobs on top of what time I put into MSA. So some correspondence took longer than others and people got upset. Are they justified, you betcha.... but it was what it was. I was focused on purchasing our own machinery in house and that's what I did..... But that is the past and a lot has changed which is why you don't see posts like this anymore. TAKD pulled through the restructure and employees were hired to help me keep my sanity.

Since then things have been a lot different, we have delivered a few thousand adapters to happy customers and added dealers.

So do we still have Customer Service issues??? No but sometimes yes. As long as you understand we are not Brownells or Magpul, we have a set production schedule that involves outsourced work and we ship in order received you're gonna be fine (that has never changed even back when MSA first started and had a exemplary reputation, before the trouble). l always suggest email us to ask if in stock or shipping time frame we are happy to answer there are more people here to help, it's not a one man show like it was in the past, plugging fingers in a leaky dam only to not have enough fingers and toes. I say this because it surprises me how many people think the "Place order now" button ( as seen on our site) and think it reads "In Stock" In the description it also says "Due to extremely high demand, these sell as fast as we can make them and are shipped on a first come first serve basis." Not sure how much more clear it can be, yet still we get people posting "Their website said it was in stock"

It's best the customer is literate, can read/comprehend instruction manuals and doesn't over estimate their gunsmith capabilities. Seems logical but if you read the amount of post saying "why doesn't this Korean (read non USGI compliant rip off POS) AR magazine not work in the adapter" or that "their IMI Spec Adapter don't work in my non IMI Spec Golani clone" pretty much means they didn't read and comprehend. Also it helps if you're not a keyboard commando who likes trolling and drama, we are not the company for you, we will tell you to go "piss in a fan" PDQ.

I know it sounds bad but I've had one to many dealings with people who just shouldn't own, much less, operate a firearm. One of my personal favorites is the customer who couldn't install a stock adapter because WE didn't provide the tools to do so. Screwdriver, Allen wrench and file.... I can say with confidence, he did not have a pleasant experience. He paid $35 (special sale) for a $59 retail part and had the audacity to go post how bad of a business we are because we didn't give him tools. But makes no mention of us calling him at 9pm going out of our way to help explain how to install the adapter and walk him through the design. The forum pretty much ate his ass and the mods banned him.

If anyone has or have an issue and it's brought to my attention it will get taken care of. As I posted in another thread to JoshAshton. Josh stated he had trouble with an adapter order, non receipt. After searching records the only order Josh had placed was for a stock adapter and trigger set, both of which he acknowledged to have received in a timely fashion. Coincidental this order was place nine months after the alleged adapter order. Currently we are still awaiting some verification of the transaction so we can address the claim. It's almost a month later and we have yet to hear back from him, we've messaged him a time or two to follow up. If we do and the claim is validated he will be taken care of.

Funny thing about those. My (dun-dun-dun-duuuun) Golani wouldn't work without jamming with the metal Galil or polymer Tapco mags. I installed one of these, and it ran fine. Go figure. Anyway the installation took a few hours with a file and they tend to only like aluminum USGI mags.

Has anyone tried to use the Canis AK AR mag adaptor on a Valmet M76?

Just bought a M76 and found out mags are now running $300 each on Gunbroker. I was planning on sending a bunch of Weiger and Bulgarian circle 10 mags to Jeff at Hillbilly Firearms to convert but would like to know if the Canis mag adaptor will work on the Valmet.

Jeff has talked about making Valmet adapters. The trick is that Valmet mags are individually machined to a uniform, high tolerance for them to feed correctly. There is not much variance in their manufacture, and this explains their high cost and why no aftermarket company would attempt to recreate them. Buy original 3-rivets or have Weigers/Bulgarians individually fitted to your M76. Be aware that the converted mags may not necessarily work in a different Valmet rifle. Even 2-rivet Valmet mags (M71) may sometimes not be reliable in an M76. But Jeff understands and accounts for the variables. The mag issue is the sore spot for an otherwise exceptional rifle. Perhaps you will come to like the M76 better than a Galil? Enjoy your Valmet!

Original MSA adapter

I bought one of the original MSA adapters and the problems weren't with the adapter, it was the century receivers. They were out of spec on the exterior of the receiver, atleast mine was. They were not flat. All it took was a little filing to flatten out the base of the receiver around the mag well and it fit fine. Functions flawlessly. I just need to remember which release to use as I sometimes dump the mag and adapter. I may put a set screw on the paddle to prevent this in the future.

Even in an IMI 386 the darn thing won't come within a mile of properly seating into the mag well.
