Blackdog mags range report
Yesterday I was at the range with my Group Uzi, Vector 22 kit, and Blackdog 22 Uzi mags.
I placed a bunch of clay targets on a hillside at 100 yards, set the Uzi at 200 yds and blasted away.
I had 3 new BD mags, preloaded with Rem Thunderbolt ammo, and they worked like a charm. No failures. Mostly 3-4 rnd bursts from the bench.
Then I reloaded mag number 3 and continued to wreak havoc untill I shot half the mag. Then a KABOOM. The case blew at the bottom. The receiver was smoking. I checked the mag. The front was cracked open for about 2 inches. The reinforcing tab was cracked. I finished the damaged mag without problems.
I then tried a Vector 28 rd mag. I noticed the empties were not ejecting very far and sometimes failed to clear the gun. I took the gun apart and examined the extractor. It was sprung open and did not grip a cartidge at all. I took a pair of pliers and squeezed the extractor shut.
Now things were back to normal and the empties flew 3-4 feet from gun.
Its not Blackdogs fault that the bolt does not sufficiently support the cartridge case head, but I fear this may be a re-occuring problem.
I could send the mag back to BD, but I don't think I will. It would probably just happen again with the replacement.
I think I'll try to make some sort of a steel support.
