Better Uzi Sear Pin?

I just broke a second Uzi Sear Pin during a Match? I replaced the lower and kept going. It was a German Lower on a GI. Last year, I broke on an original IMI FA. They both broke at the notch on the pin. Is this a design flaw or a bad batch of pins? Are 147s 9mm too much for the Uzi? Does anyone make a better pin?

Interesting. I've never broken one of those pins, even in the gun I use regularly for matches, and I don't recall hearing about other people breaking them but I'm sure you aren't the only one. I'm not aware of any alternative to the standard pin that wouldn't involve some custom work.

Dave, I broke one, too. Well-worn IMI lower mounted on a Vector. Went runaway on semi. Aren't the bolt/spring forces opposed by the left and right sear pin holes when the bolt remains back? So imagine you could accelerate sear pin wear doing singles/doubles etc vs letting the gun stop bolt forward with empty mag?

Ive been though easily dozens of Uzi's and pallets of ammo and never seen a pin break. Other random stuff like top covers sure but not that.

I had a sear crack in two never a sear pin.

Sears breaking in half is relatively common on high use guns. That's one reason I would never own a registered sear UZI.

I don't know why it couldn't be, but I'd rather not be in that position to have to repair it.

I have seen broken pins before but not very often. If you have broken two you have some other problem with your Uzi causing the pins to break.

Richard, the second one to break was the Group Industry gun with German lower that you reworked for me in August 2017, I broke the trunnion welds and you did a lot of work on it. Your work was fantastic, this is what I had you do:

1. Repair/re-weld the trunnion or replace the trunnion
2. Re-weld the back plate as a preventive maintenance measure.
3. Straighten the receiver as needed.
4. Install the Uzi SMG Machined Feed Ramp, included.
5. Install new ejector as a preventive maintenance measure, included.
6. Only if needed, install a new top cover latch (this may not be needed)
7. Parkerize
8. Inspect and replace any worn parts, barrel latch, nut etc.
9. Fit both two top covers for function and no lateral movement so that zero remains consistent.
10. Test and adjust for function and 100% reliability with both top covers and both barrels

The German Lower that I sent with it, looked new, I removed the Bolt Catch. You Reparkerized it to match.

It was running like a Swiss Watch until the pin broke. I replaced the sear pin, I just don't want to break another.

But the reason that I posted was to find out why his pin broke on two different guns?

I put between 5-10K a year through it. I am shooting 147 Grain 9mm,

PS, the first sear pin to break was on an early SWD pre 86 RR conversion IMI Model A, that was about a year ago.
