Very cool. I also like his tactical sneakers.

Looks like he’s got the bolt forward with the cocking knob turned to lock it. I always like to see how different organizations/militaries approach the manual of arms with open bolt SMGs.

In 2015 Clyde Armory had (2) well-worn 9mm M10s for sale with Atlanta PD electro penciled and had shot-out silencers marked the same. Price for the M10 was $4k. Clyde is known to buy/sell surplus LE equipment.

I passed on the M10s and bought a minty M11/9 from another seller for a little more. I know a member of this site bought one of the M10s because he posted about it a few months later.

Cool. It looks like a 45 lower. I have an early adjustable sight Powder Springs 9mm upper and 9mm Suppressor (made in 72) that is from Atlanta PD back in the day. I didn't know they had 45 guns thought they only had 9mm.

I have no idea what happened to the actual gun lower of my APD 9mm Suppressor but was told Lynda Farmer collection from Hard Times Armory supposedly had it then transferred to an SOT (perhaps several) before I bought it. It's merely electro penciled as Atlanta Police. Was told they had a few, but mostly cleared them out some time ago probably in the early 2000s.

Nike was the thing.
In the early 1980's - Adidas (and Puma) were the shoes to have. Nike got really big in 1984 after they signed Michael Jordan. Sorry for the thread drift - I have a relative who does consulting for Nike and asked her - this was her opinion.

The folding stock on a MAC is not very useful, but since he does not even have a stock on the gun, I assume he was going to fire from the hip using the sling to help stabilize it. A great way to clear a phone booth, but not sure about doing that if hostages are present. He looks happy to be carrying that much gear.

This incident was about a year after the SAS embassy siege and that was kinda the inspiration of the time.

Great pics! Thanks for sharing! Love seeing old photos of the MAC in action with law enforcement/military.

Here’s some more Atlanta PD MAC pics… As well as one of their engraved suppressor endcaps. The MACs and suppressors have likely long since been removed from their arsenal. Looks like they did the same engravings on the guns themselves.

Is this from the old Japanese “Combat” magazine, from around 1985 or so?

Yep! I have a few issues featuring Mac guns. Those Japs make the best “gun porn” ever. the M11 380 issue from 1982 is the most impressive Ingram pictorial I’ve ever seen.. even has a photo of a Vacaville CA swat officer wearing an M11 in an RPB upside down shoulder holster!

It appears as though the Atlanta PD did not utilize the wire stock on any of their M10 SMGs. They have the same set up in the photos I shared as well, 2 stage can with no buttstock and a shoulder sling. Seems to me that they used the MAC as a “spray and pray” kinda gun for clearing rooms, fired from the hip in confined spaces, very much living up to the classic phone booth quote.

Ah, the 1980s, when police could justify shooting up a room with a submachine gun and collateral damage was sad, but acceptable, and no one went to prison. That is definitely the bailiwick of the factory standard MAC SMGs.

I was in one issue in 1985 or so, showing a class at Werbells. They sent me a copy I still have around here somewhere.

What magazine was it?
We are talking about the Japanese COMBAT magazine. I know that you have the 1982 M11 issue, it’s in your dropbox that you shared. I have that one as well, that’s the one I was just talking about in my previous post that has the great pictorial with Vacaville, California SWAT. The pictures that I posted of the Atlanta Police Department are also from a 1980s issue of combat with an article about the M10. I’d really love to see the issue that he’s talking about with the cobray intl/SIONICS training school. I have a good connect in Japan for back issues of that magazine. If I knew what year and issue it was, I might be able to find a copy.
