I'd really like to have a 16.5 barrel on my Golani and have been considering cutting it back and recrowning/rethreading. Big question is port size.

Has anyone successfully bobbed the barrel on their Golani?

Maybe a better question is will the gun run if barrel is cut back to 16inchs? Or will the port need to be opened to get the gun to function?

Yes, my question was regarding port size - i.e. will it have to be opened to make the gun function or is there adequate port pressure for reliable operation after trimming 4.5 inch off barrel.

I beleive the only way to know is to try it.

IMO opening up the gas port is no big deal. Friend of mine did it on his marginally functional AR. Worked great.

Of course, I'd have a spare bbl lined up BEFORE I chopped / drilled it.

:)

The barrel on your Golani isn't 21 inches long. It's 18.

I have had Jeff shorten 3 of my Golani's to 16" with including the permentantly attached flash hider without any problem with function. Each barrel was shortened to 15" if I remember. You may want to check with Jeff (Tenngalil) to make sure though. B.Q.

Any pics of those shortened Galil/Golanis? I have been considering the exact same thing.

Sorry, no pictures. All 3 were for friends and Christmas presents. I also had Jeff go thru each rifle and do his "special engraving" which made these Golani's look like a million bucks. You won't be disappointed if you have Jeff do his magic. Bob Q.:thumbs_up
