My answer is go lift weights. I hear criticism of the Galil being too heavy. I think thats the only major complaint about it, but its usually from AR (M-16) fans. Like the AR doesnt have problems. The other is that the Galil is expensive. I guess it is for militarys that get m-16s for free or for $200.

:gym Already do that.

My comments are presented as more of an impression than a criticism. Looking at a 308 Galil ARM, there's not the appearance of much mass with the short HG and the open area betw. the barrel and gas tube, and the skel stock. It's a fooler in that regard, because of its heft vs. appearance.

One other criticism is the near-unobtanium status of higher-cap mags.

6500rpm: I love you too, bro! :jester

I have nearly 50 that I picked up in Colombia in the late '80s for $15 ea, if I remember correctly. I have 5 spare parts kits, even a barrelled Mossberg-imported receiver. Bought stuff up as it appeared because I knew one day the stuff was going to dry up.

But. I don't like the lack of optic mounting options. Ten years ago, it was no big deal because there was nothing around to mount except for a long hunting scope.

Now I have lasers, combat optics and night vision tubes. And I can't use any of them on the Galil.

Plus the one thing that never stopped bugging me was the lack of a bolt hold-open.

I'm thinking of selling all the Galil stuff and getting a FAL. Far superior device mounting options, bolt hold-open, similar size, weight, reliability and accuracy. Plentiful and cheap mags and parts kits. I'm going to wait to handle one and see if I like how it feels before I take such a drastic step, but I've nearly convinced myself.

ORF was going to get some IMI/IWI 25 round mags. Anything yet?

Also, Checkmate Industries, the only manufacturer of M14 mags for the US military, should have some 25 round M14 mags by the end of the year.

Maybe ORF will convert some of those for their .308 Galil market. :)

Perfect solution.

The solution for optics as far as I'm concerned is a railed gas tube. I have mounted a Meprolight 21I to mine & it works just fine. I have also added rails to my fore grip and added a folding handle. Makes it a keeper as far as I'm concerned.

Nice setup -- not a gun for mere mortals. The weight on your left arm alone must be incredible.

I opted to start lifting weights again when I got my Galil AR. Now I have an ARM coming ....gonna need all my strength :)
