Every tyranny in history has included the disarmament of the citizenry, under the guise of "safety".

Japan had "The Great Sword Hunt", which led to the development of Karate and a lot of farm tools becoming weapons.

Excellent article. I found this quote from James Burgh particularly powerful: "The possession of arms is the distinction between a freeman and a slave."
