7.62x39 upper.

Picked this up the other day. Seller said he was having trouble getting Russian ammo to run in it. Said it came with an enhanced firing pin, but when I measured the pin from the stop to the tip, I discovered it’s actually shorter than a spare regular pin I had. I ordered one from Red X Arms, should be here in a couple days. I’ve wanted to try one of these for a while. Got it and mags for $250! Any tips I need to know?

That looks like a Bear Creek Arsenal upper. They were 220-250 up until recently

It’s a Radical Firearms 10.5”. Came with four of the 20 and two of the 30 rnd DuraMags.

Looking up close, it looks to be identical. Even the same angles on the forward assist.

So I got in the new firing pin in today. Here’s the measurements from the stop to the tip.
Pin that was in the upper - 2.705”
Spare pin I had - 2.709”
RedXArms - 2.722”

Now I got to go shoot it!

The biggest issue that I have seen with 7.62X39 uppers is the barrel extension feed ramps. The 7.62X39 has a larger diameter than 5.56X45. So the center line of the 7.62X39 is lower than 5.56X45. So the feed ramps need to be lower and wider than the standard 5.56X45 feed ramps. A depending on manufacturer the top of the feed ramps can be sharp and gouge the length of the 7.62X39 round. This extra drag can also cause feed problems. The recoil isn't bad, but there is a little more push than 5.56X45. 11.5" barrel length is my favorite.

Bear Creek seems to make generics for a lot of other brands. i think I've seen them on MidwayUSA too. Whenever you see that slant cut foregrip think bear creek is my take.

Nice pickup for that price then! Those Duramag 20s are my fav ar-47 mags and the duramags are the best! I reviewed them a while back.

From what I’ve seen, the Duramags are the ones to use. I figured they were worth $125-$150 on their own.
Hoping I can get out in a couple days to try it out!

Hope it works awesome. I built one, sanded the bullet guides into one giant single guide. Took it shooting and forgot the allen wrench to adjust the gas block with so it would not cycle. Need to take it back out.

I needed to open the bullet guides on the barrel extension/receiver and brought firing pin protrusion up to .065 I think and that fixed all my issues.

Finally got a chance to shoot it and it went bang every time with the RedXArms firing pin, using three different kinds of steel cased Russian ammo.

man that looks like some of the locking lugs are missing. Bear creek is notorious for doing that
