My son is purchasing his first gun tonight, a Remmington 700. He has always dug the long range, bolt action stuff even though I've tried to muscle him into subguns :)

Fortunately, he is also into SBRs and suppressors.

So... what would be the best choice for a 308 suppressor for long(er) range shooting? Specifically one that will maintain the POI best when switching from unsuppressed to suppressed?

I have an AAC 762SD and have been very happy with it. That said, Thunderbeast would be my next purchase. There are many good ones out there these days.

I have a Gemtech Sandstorm on mine and love it. For a second 30 cal can I might go with a Liberty Freedom.

best price point can is yhm

Agreed. I've got one. It's a heavy beast, but sounds good and is solid. Mine is a thread on and my brother in laws is a QD. My dad runs a thread on yhm with a 700 SPS tactical. That gun shoots .5 MOA with FGMM. No issues with either. Depending on the gun, I've had as much as 4 inches POI change, but it also depends on the barrel profile/length. You are hanging a weight at the end of the barrel, so it is going to change. All of ours have been very repeatable which is the key.

If you are putting a can on a hunting rifle, I'd get a silencerco harvester because it is so light weight. When I run my yhm on my .308 AR, it turns a heavy gun into a heavier gun. I've shot critters from a deer stand and a fence post, but carrying around and shooting offhand gets old.

I just got a Thunderbeast 30 P-1 this month. I highly recommend it.

In .30 cal, I have an AAC 7.62SDN6 and an integral .308 FN patrol bolt to compare to.

I have put 200 rounds through it using my AR10 7.62, I was impressed how quiet and light it is.
I built the AR10 just for using this can, 16" barrel with an adjustable gas block.

It is rated for .300 Win Mag.

Have fun

Another vote for the GemTech Sandstorm. 13.5 ounces, thread on. Very little point of impact change and excellent suppression. Remember, weight is as important as suppression....

TBAC 30 p1 is the go to can for long range and it is a champ but... I would take a good look at the TBAC new CB cans. Using a friction dome on the QD to retain is a good compromise in between precision and versatility, one I think is suitable for long range, but the wind drift always beats me anyhow. The 30 p1 direct thread on a bolt gun will stay put with nice tight threads and a decent shoulder but i dont like worrying about it so if its not locked down with a real QD for precision, I like the friction domes QD mounts of TBAC and Griffin.

Those Lanes look pretty enticing. A 6.5" 5.56 suppressor in titanium? Sweet.
