Hi, all.

I've got an HK-style 3-lug mount on my MPX and I'm using it with my Octane 45HD and SilencerCo 3-lug adapter. The stupid LH muzzle threading working against the RH threading of the adapter and suppressor makes it impossible (so far) to keep everything together while shooting. I've tried using Rocksett on the 3-lug mount and muzzle threads, but it seems to loosen up after several mags. It's possible I didn't clean/degrease the 3-lug adapter and muzzle threads enough prior to installation, so I'll be sure to re-do that just in case. But I also don't have a wrench for the 3-lug adapter and didn't want to use a crescent wrench or something else that would mar the finish, so I was only able to tighten the adapter by hand.

Is there such a thing as a purpose-built HK-style 3-lug adapter installation/removal tool? I've tried several web searches, but I was unable to find such a device. Maybe they don't exist, or maybe by google-fu is just not what it once was.

Thanks in advance.

Put a layer of Teflon tape on the adapter, then use an open end wrench. That will prevent marring.

Hmm... hadn't thought about that. I don't have any Teflon tape handy, but I have all sorts of hockey stick tape. I suppose that should work just as well.

Thanks!

The Teflon tape is extremely thin and is not easily compressible. It's cheap and readily available at any hardware store.
I'm not sure about hockey tape.

I normally use the mount+tool to tighten adapters on barrels, but I really don't like to. Something about using all that torque on an expensive mount that wasn't designed to be a socket concerns me. I also don't like putting a wrench on the lugs regardless of the presence of tape. You'd think there would be a tool out there that sells like hotcakes to 3-lug guys, but no...

Here's something that you might look into if you have or know someone that has a 3-D printer:
http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1647395
Or if you want a hand tool,
http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1733574

It's ruined after a single use, but supposedly gives you enough torque for the job.
Now, if you're not in a hurry, you could send that file to shapeways and have them print it out in stainless steel.

(also, if you do this, make a second one for me!)

There's one other guy I ran across with the tooling and file to make a 3-lug wrench.
It's more of a box wrench with a 3-lug pattern machined into it, toward the bottom of the page they're talking about it:

Might this help keep the 3lug mount from breaking free when attaching?

https://www.store.silencerco.com/products/3-lug-spanner-wrench?variant=1193887208

That wrench is intended to facilitate removal of the mount from the can (i.e. after firing it can get crudded up and removal can be difficult).

http://www.silencershop.com/accesso...cessories/silencerco-octane-3-lug-mount.html?

You can see the hole on the side of the mount. I suppose it can also be used to tighten the mount to the can, but I've never had a problem with the mount coming loose from the can - the problem has always been with the adapter coming loose from the muzzle.

And pro-tip for other folks out there. SilencerCo doesn't make their own spanner wrench - they just resell the Armstrong 34-204 spanner wrench and then tack on a few bucks for their trouble. You can buy the same wrench from Amazon for ~15% less:

Cheers,

I had seen those "disposable" sockets on thingiverse a couple of days ago... if I had a 3D printer I'd already have made a few. :) I'll have to check out the steel option, but I think I like this one better:

That wrench posted by Engineer looks perfect! I'm going to send him a PM to see how one goes about obtaining something like that.

Thanks!
