UZI Talk Shoot in Las Vegas DETAILS

Now that the holidays are behind us, it's time to get rolling on the First Annual UZI Talk Shoot.

Vegas SMG and az paul are our men-on-the-ground for this event, and each has offered to help in any way possible.

We are planning to get together on BLM land on Saturday, meet up at Desert Sportsman Rifle and Pistol Range on Sunday to join in their subgun match, and possibly head back out to BLM land for the rest of the day.

Tentatively, the schedule will be as follows:

  • Friday night (3/12): All those who arrive in time can get together for supper.
  • Saturday (3/13): We all meet at the abandoned gravel pit on public (BLM) land to waste some ammo, shake hands, tell jokes/lies, etc.
  • Saturday night (3/13): Meet for supper and...?
  • Sunday (3/14): Subgun match at Desert Sportsman Rifle and Pistol Range at 9:00 AM.
  • Sunday (3/14): All those who'd like to waste some more ammo can head back out to the gravel pit. ;)

A few notes:

  • The gravel pit on BLM land is 250-300 yards long, and can be used as much/little as we see fit.
  • The location of the gravel pit is roughly six miles south of Las Vegas city limits.
  • The subgun match on Sunday is $11.00 to enter, and is an optional event. This is a great opportunity to try your skill/luck against your internet friends and the local competitors.
  • All are welcome, and all firearms are welcome. If you have something neat/unusual, bring it!
  • There will be a drawing on Saturday for a .45 Coastal Can, donated by Stoverarms. Proceeds from this raffle will be misused by the UZI Talk members in attendance in some fashion or another.
  • It's recommended that you get your 5320.20 taken care of ASAP. Most use the address of their hotel.
If you're planning on attending, please reply to this thread.

Count me in!! I'm not sure of exact ETA or ETD at this point, but certainly will be joining you guys for the bulk, if not all, of the activities.

Will send in the 5320.20's via Priority Mail, on Wednesday. Assuming they'll be back in time, I'll bring a FA Vector UZI and perhaps a StreetSweeper.

You can also fax them in to 202-927-8601. I faxed them and called about an hour later to check that they arrived okay. You'll definitely save some time doing that.

Thanks, RoverDave. I'll fax 'em in tomorrow. Do I then need to follow up with hard copies via the Postal Service? What is the follow-up phone call number? Thanks in advance.

Check this out.......As if we're not going to have enough to do as it is, it also turns out there's going to be a 1200-table gun show at The Cashman Center that weekend!!! So, bring plastic and a copy of your local FFL's certificate.

You can check on the fax by calling the regular NFA number: 202-927-8330. The fax is all you need. No need to send paper copy afterwards.

Good news about the gun show!

Uzi talk lodgings?

Previously there had been an idea suggested that a block of rooms be reserved at a hotel, where security could be provided by limiting access to a specific floor. Has a hotel been selected as a headquarter? This would simplify many aspects of this gathering. I will be in Vegas that weekend and would like to know the address recommended for the atf form and to make a reservation.
It's -2 degrees F now, how about we meet there this weekend?

Would it be possible for someone to post a map and/or directions for finding the shooting spot?

Please do not use the phrase "You can't miss it". Yes, I can, as I get lost two blocks from home. Whenever someone says that I know I am doomed to go in circles endlessly <BG>.

drw said "It's -2 degrees F now, how about we meet there this weekend?" Yep, our daughter is in Albany, NY and said it was
-13 last night without the wind chill factor and it's supposed to be colder tonight.

With regard to the hotel situation, we need to get a rough idea of how many folks are attending, so we can check with the various hotels and see what they can do for us regarding prices and security. My wife and I will put together a questionnaire and post it here over the weekend. This is not going to be easy.....Some people may want to stay on "The Strip", some people may want to go a more economical route and stay off "The Strip", but still be close to it.

Having everyone at the same place would be very convenient in many ways, but might end up being impractical. Any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated.

I'm in. I'm on the fence about flying vs driving. Can I put both on the 5320.20? I plan on being as general as possible (i.e. multiple trips, throughout the year, etc.).

Plan to arrive Friday, but will need to head back on Sunday. :(

Hotel Info

Vegas SMG and I have been working on hotel arrangements. I have one last detail to finalize but here is what I'm looking at.

We'll have a "home base" of one particular hotel. If people want to stay there to be in proximity with the others, great. if people want to make other arrangements to suit their needs, that's fine too. The place we're looking at is not on the strip. It's a smaller place, clean & functional but not fancy. Cost will be around $30 a night. We're checking into some additional security arrangements for the weekend. If this interests you, contact me for details. You will be responsible for calling the hotel and making your reservation. We will not be publishing hotel information in a public forum.

Even though "home base" is not on the strip, we expect to get together for evening entertainment.

Vegas SMG and I will get some directions put together.

Herr-Pear, as long as we can get you close, you should be able to home in on the noise. We hope to make a lot of noise.

Regarding the form 5320.20, I've always listed comercial aircraft and private car as my modes of transportation just to cover all bases. I list my dates for one full year, ie, March 01, 2004 -- March 01, 2005, and these have always been approved. You may not travel back to the approved state twice in a 12 month period, but you never know. I submit my 5320.20s for several states I MAY travel to during the year just so I'm covered should I decide to make a spur of the moment trip with my C3 weapons. In submitting your 5320.20, you may consider sending in others for a variety of states at this time. Suppressors DO NOT require a 5320.20 for travel outside of your home state, but I've always submitted one just in case I run into a Barney Fife type who may be unfamiliar with local and federal law. I'd rather not take a chance a thousand miles away from home with a LEO who may not have encountered legal, transferable, C3 items. Your call on this, just sharing my views and experience. Whatever you do, I'd you get those forms going NOW. I've had them approved in as little as 3 weeks, and also had them take a little more than 2 months for approval.
