Take Everything you thought you knew and throw it out the window

Now that is a rare beast indeed... first 338 I have ever seen in the US. There is a handful of 336 and 337's but that is the first SAR.

Galil to cover with weird symbols

Manufacturer casting marks. Diamond indicates South African make.

    IMI Magal

MAGAL was a limited use replacement weapon for the M1 Carbine that was issued to semi-civilian personnel (teachers) and I believe some police. They are extremely rare. Blackthorne had scores of the plastic shells for sale years ago, probably the entire lot that IMI made. As far as I know they...

What did I buy? Hadar Galil?

Yeah sorry bud, that is a US receiver. No way IMI built that sucker.

What did I buy? Hadar Galil?

That doesn't look right. SN is wrong font and weird. Shouldn't have a vertical bolt knob. Looks to be an ORF Galil stuck in a HADAR stock.

    Need a 308 Galil barrel

That is pretty expensive for an obscure barrel!

    Need a 308 Galil barrel

Need a virgin one, prefer 16” but any IMI will do

    Early R4 Wood Handguard Question

The long R4 wood handguard was produced by IMI. Initial deliveries were basic Galil ARM rifles made to IDF spec. Subsequent deliveries incorporated the longer handguard, also made by IMI. Vektor / Lyttleton production, as far as I can tell, never produced any wood parts or the carry handles.

Loose buttstock on my Galil ARM clone...

Probably from wear/corrosion at the "L" joint and/or the actual retaining pin. Either of these parts were commonly worn out on Golanis as they used Guatemalan/central american kits. Replace the pin. If ineffective, add weld to either the knuckle or hinge joint and grind to fit.

    AC-Unity magazines on galil?

Problem is, that most .223 AK rifles use magazines patterned after a 5.45 AK74 magazine well. The Galil is dimensioned off a 7.62 milled AK47 including the magazine. Just buy the standard Galil mags and forego the aftermarket plastic junk.

    South African R6 Help

If you bought it from Sidearm2020 I wouldn't hold your breath. That guy is a POS. I bought barrels from him and they were all toast despite being listed as "very good". Refused to refund me, sent me a box of junk instead to compensate. I've heard he takes months to ship if he ships at all.

    Galil Piston Lobes/Triangular Collar

Shows up often on contract/export guns. My guess is it is a very late 80's/early 90's changeover. I've had kits before from contract guns that had the polymer micro-style stocks and they all had triangular pistons, and the Micro was developed in the late 90's so that gives you a good time frame...

    16.5 332

No. And it is hard to tell. Usually if someone does a chop-job they will knock out the bayo lug and swap the flashhider to something that is either AR15 or AK47 threading, because why rethread it to the Galil threading when not as many flashhiders are made in that thread pitch. I've seen a...

    16.5 332

There are at least a hundred or so of them. The chopped 332s are a bit of an anomaly, they are not listed in the MR catalogs as being an option, but it seems that MR or IMI had them factory chopped to make them more appealing to US consumers looking for a short rifle. The Chopped 332s are...

Galil IMI 1:7 .223 Virgin barrels (Blackthorne)

This is correct. No circle-E or Circle-P proof means they were rejected for some reason, despite the reason not being clear.

Mags.. confused about what I'm reading

The Model 361 you have is a desirable model. If it is in excellent condition as you say, I would not shoot it. Unless of course you plan on keeping it for quite some time. General handling and signs of use such as brass-dings below the ejection port can easily bring down the value of an...

    Fresh wood!

A couple years ago it was thought it was teak, but I cross-checked it with some FAL collectors and they confirmed it was a variety of European Beech.

    Fresh wood!

They are European Beech, the same type they run on Zastava AKs.
  19. Mr Folgers

    Fresh wood!

I like them, but why can't we get any in the original Beech wood? Its great that these can be done in Oak/Ash/Walnut, and there has been 3-4 different companies that have made reproductions in those woods, but for some reason nobody wants to make replicas in the actual wood that was used? I'm...

    Full-auto lower on Semi gun?

So ~~~Hypothetically~~~ if one were to have a Semi-auto Uzi receiver/bolt and they stuck a full-auto lower onto it, would that be a no-no? "Hypothetically" the gun works in semi-auto but the striker assembly rides the bolt home with the selector in full-auto and I'm theorizing that it might...
