I don't think you have fully explained what malf you are experiencing?
Is the case stuck in the chamber?
Bouncing back in and blocking the bolt from closing?
3 quick questions:
How much movement and play does your mag well housing have?
Have you checked the ejector?
Check your chamber...

Sterling mags will lock into a sten if the bolt is back, they will only function if the feed trough is widened in the sten bolt to clear the double feed shoulders of the Sterling magazine.
The "feed horn" of the sten and Sterling bolts are the same size where it passes through the center of the...

The answer is "yes,....but", because of the shortened length of travel, the bolt may foul on the disconnector, so the Mk5 bolt has a section ground out on the front face as a path for the disconnector (as illustrated in the APEX photo).
Pull your MkV barrel off and look from the front. If there is not a pin from the top then you are golden.
But I'm sure that there would be to hold your Mk5 barrel upright. It would fit into the notch in the top of the Mk5 barrel collar.
If you have a C&R Mk5 probably not. The Mk5 front trunion should have a barrel locating pin to keep the barrel upright. A Mk5 barrel will work in a MkII gun with no problems.
The Brits got around this for their Mk5(S) guns by making a split ring collar so that they could fit a MkII(S) silencer...
