As alluded to, this is usually because the C&R gun is authentic, whereas the non-C&R gun is likely a registered aftermarket tube with an appropriate parts kit.

Ah, there's the answer I didn't think about. I didn't see a couple hundred bucks on a $6-10k gun as all that big a deal, unless you were doing it often enough. But the one less form wait is very significant.

What does the C&R status get you? I have a C&R, and I know some machine guns qualify, but I thought it just changed to where it can ship, saving a transfer fee, but didn't really expedite anything, or save any real money.

I have a stock safety, and did not change the springs. Mine seems GTG after several days of testing. I also don't use the safety, so hopefully it just stays that way.
