    Cerakote color?

Get hold of lcastillo or Adipose on the forum. They have been through this exercise and will know what colour is what. They have done R4 builds in the USA

VEKTOR / lyttelton LM5 serial number location

My LM5 was built by LEW and has the "C" serial number under the gas block. There are no other serial numbers on the rifle.

VEKTOR / lyttelton LM5 serial number location

The L serial number would most likely be LEW, but LM6 rifles built followed on with the "C" serial number. Some serial numbers may have a A1 suffix to denote the bolt configuration. The LM6 with the "RSA" serial number was produced by Nobelteq. The serial number should be engraved on the barrel...

    Early R4 Wood Handguard Question

The dovetail scope mount was removed from the R4 design as scopes and night vision devices were not issued by the SADF on a scale that warranted the expense of machining the scope mount. Some dovetails also broke out of the machined recess, which weakened the receiver at a crucial section. The...

    In search of R4 stock

Parts have dried up here in SA as well. Give Nobleteq a try. They would be my go to. Nobleteq bought all the LM series and Vektor parts from Denel and were assembling LM rifles at one point. They also started making parts again, but i haven't spoken to them in ages and don't know whats...

How often should you rotate the R4 buffer?

Also nice to have your GTG ready to grab by the pistol grip :)

How often should you rotate the R4 buffer?

There doesn't seem to be a specific round count when to change the buffer out. The manual only makes mention of inspecting the buffer for ware or damage. I replaced the buffer in my LM5 about 15 years ago and it is still going strong after a few thousand rounds. I was given some advice a while...

How often should you rotate the R4 buffer?

The buffer is covered under Section G (Butt Assembly Group) in the SADF R4 workshop repair manual. "The nylon buffer can be pulled out of the bracket butt by hand." (this is if the bracket has been removed from the receiver, otherwise pry it out with a screw driver) "The nylon buffer may be...

South African R series of weapons information thread (lots of pictures)

Many CR-21's were given to units for anti rhino poaching. My CR-21 was carried extensively on patrols and has a well worn plastic body, but hasn't worked very hard in terms of lead down range.

South African R series of weapons information thread (lots of pictures)

A little off topic. You guys may be interested to know that there are alot of ex IMI Gallil rifles on their way to SA soon. A local gun shop told me that they ordered 75.

South African R series of weapons information thread (lots of pictures)

This book has been published about firearms developed and made in South Africa. It is very comprehensive. I managed to pick up a copy and can highly recommend it if you can get yourself one. There is alot of information on the CR-21 as well as the R4, R5, R6 and LM rifles with some comparisons...

Need help on R4 Polymer Mags

I have found the plastic mags are much easier to get into and out of the CR-21 compared to the steel mags. I have a friend in SAPS that won't touch a plastic magazine. He had an experience where they had to chase a suspect on foot and while retrieving his R5 from the vehicle the plastic...

    AK 47 bolt in a 5.56 Galil

On a side note. A fellow shooters AK recoil guide rod broke at a recent IPSC rifle shoot. He took a old rusted LM recoil guide rod that we found in a storage container. Gave the rusted LM recoil guide rod a good oil, dropped it into the AK and the rifle worked flawlessly.

What is the best thing to do with a functional Golani?....Turn it into a CR-21

Very nice job ljspoon. I don't like the way the CR-21 shoots compared to the LM to be honest. The CR-21 i found to be very clunky.

    South African CR-21 rifle

It is my pleasure ljspoon. I am happy that you got something out of this thread. That is what it was intended for and also to have a record and a piece of history online about these rare rifles. There isn't much information out there about them. Thank you for adding to it.

What is the best thing to do with a functional Golani?....Turn it into a CR-21

I'm not too sure about Vektor selling CR-21 parts kits to convert LM's over. It wouldn't be a simple conversion as some machining would be required on the LM receiver and the gas block is different to that of the LM. Removing a LM gas block and installing a CR-21 gas block would probably mean...
