With exception to certain date stamped mags and recent production of zmags, how would one know if a magazine was built before 94?

Please, someone correct me if I'm wrong but I believe: SWD = large mag well (zytel and zmags work) and RPB = small, need 380 mags. So the Spiwak should have the large mag well.

Seems I read somewhere that the engraving had to be visible without disassembly? Any truth to this? Or perhaps disassembly would need to be defined better if that was the truth. What say yee?
