Velocity VMAC-45 jamming with hollow points

Well, finally got the ejector and extractor installed, and yeah, the gun's much more reliable now. Gunsmith fired 3 mags and had no issue, I fired 3 mags and had one light primer strike (most likely ammo related) and one failure to feed. The other rounds all ran fine with Federal HST hollow...

Velocity VMAC-45 jamming with hollow points

Was able to talk to Velocity today and he said he'll send me a new ejector and extractor. Let's see if that resolves the FTE issues.

Velocity VMAC-45 jamming with hollow points

Oh, not yet because FMJ worked fine even before. But given the primary issue seems to be failures to eject, that seems to no longer be a bullet design issue. Gonna call Velocity tomorrow if I have time to ask about it.

Velocity VMAC-45 jamming with hollow points

I shot my gun today. Didn’t notice that much play. I did get constant malfunctions but they were different this time. I only got one failure to feed and it seems like that might be related to the ejection pattern too because my ejection was really erratic and I primarily got failures to eject...

Velocity VMAC-45 jamming with hollow points

I just used the MacMachineGuns paddle lever that’s Grease Gun mag only since the VMAC was set up for those mags only as well. Wonder if being only Grease Gun compatible can cause issues.

Velocity VMAC-45 jamming with hollow points

Huh, any tutorial on how to do that? Never heard of that fix before. Would be something to try later.

Velocity VMAC-45 jamming with hollow points

The jams did occur with the original mag catch, though I have a paddle mag release now. I have thought about that too, but don’t know how to make the mag sit any higher. Will try that if the HST don’t work, though. What brand of hollow point have you used before? Will try Hornady Critical...

Velocity VMAC-45 jamming with hollow points

I have thought about that as well. May try that and the Underwood Xtreme Defender loads later. If you're able to try them, let me know.

Velocity VMAC-45 jamming with hollow points

The jam was similar to the type of jam I posted in the first page of this thread. So it hits more the top of the chamber which seems to be more of a bullet design issue. Just hoping that the HST rounds feed when I shoot them since they seem to feed fine when I slow load them by hand, which...

Velocity VMAC-45 jamming with hollow points

Well, the Federal HST came in. Slow loading with the safety on seems to indicate it feeds well so hopefully that means these rounds will feed when firing. I remember getting a couple jams with the Winchester Ranger T slow loading but was hoping the full speed cycling would help. If this feeds...

Velocity VMAC-45 jamming with hollow points

Huh, I’ll have to try that. Right now, I saw some Federal HST for cheap, and I bought some of that to see if that’ll cycle. I notice the velocity even for the standard Winchester Ranger T is on the higher end so I wonder if that could cause the bolt to cycle a bit too quickly. Gonna try the HST...

Velocity VMAC-45 jamming with hollow points

Starting to lean towards selling my VMAC-45 and getting a Stribog SP45A3 (been busy with many things) but has anyone here successfully shot any of those non-expanding .45ACP rounds in their guns? Things like the Underwood Xtreme Defender or Norma NXD rounds? Those seem like defensive loads but...

Velocity VMAC-45 jamming with hollow points

Not a fan of Glocks, honestly, but I have looked at those. If nothing else works, may look at that.

Velocity VMAC-45 jamming with hollow points

Well took the gun out shooting today and blegh, didn't work. Only had one magazine with no malfunctions and even then it had a malfunction when I loaded it again to try and confirm. Ejection did seem erratic, with the rounds that chambered properly having proper ejection patterns but many having...

Velocity VMAC-45 jamming with hollow points

I've often been a bit skeptical given the same FBI tests ammo based on how well they expand, wanting at least 1.5 times expansion for their duty loads. So if expansion matters, that means .45ACP is mathematically superior to 9mm as it makes a 60% larger wound channel than 9mm. Even Dr. Martin...

Velocity VMAC-45 jamming with hollow points

I prefer .45ACP precisely because it expands most out of all the common pistol calibers and modern versions meet FBI penetration standards. Then again, .45 FMJ is still pretty wide but the problem with 9mm before was either insufficient penetration or insufficient wound size, while modern 9mm...

Velocity VMAC-45 jamming with hollow points

Yeah but modern hollow points do penetrate and expand. At least my rounds do (Winchester Ranger T). Definitely spent the big bux to get my hands on a lot of it. Any FMJ loads you’d recommend if I can’t get it running with these hollow points?

Velocity VMAC-45 jamming with hollow points

Extremely long time since my last post due to the guy at Velocity being busy himself, but he said he’s finally gotten it working (albeit testing just one mag so far) and will be sending back my gun, mags, and ammo soon. Fingers crossed that all the other mags work equally well (or at least a few...

Velocity VMAC-45 jamming with hollow points

Yup, so hopefully they’re able to get something. I figure manufacturer with 500 rounds of ammo should be enough to get it working. However, that does assume it is even possible, hence why I also started this thread.

Velocity VMAC-45 jamming with hollow points

I’d be okay if just one or two magazines worth of hollow points ran fine. lol Luckily, Velocity got my gun and a case of 500 rounds I ordered for them today. They said they’re busy so might not have time to look at my gun for a couple days, but I’m okay with waiting as long as they get it working.
